Kym Ng's Mum Isn't As Willing To Travel With Her Anymore Due To Old Age: "She Thinks Her Legs Will Hurt"
Watching your parents grow old has got to be one of the most painful things a person can experience, but sadly, it’s also an inevitable part of life.
In Mediacorp fantasy drama Kid U Not, Kym Ng stars as Miss Golden, a mysterious woman who transforms three 12-year-olds (played by Zoe Tay, Aileen Tan and Marcus Chin) into their 60-year-old selves.
The 58-year-old Mediacorp actress' main task in the show is to assign challenges to the three kids in their 'elderly bodies' to help them understand the difficulties that older people face.
But off screen, interacting with seniors is something Kym holds close to her heart too.
According to the actress, her grandparents passed away when she was very young, so she does not have many memories with them.
However, seeing her own mother, 89, go through the ageing process and seeing all the hardships she has gone through over the years has made Kym cherish and care for the elderly even more.
Kym shared that she used to take her mother for overseas trips frequently, but that has seemingly changed in the past few years.
“Now my mother is less willing to travel abroad. It feels like she’s grown old and can’t walk as much anymore," she said.
"I keep thinking maybe she should walk more so she can stay active longer, but she thinks her leg will hurt if she walks too much."
The actress also noted that, from a child's perspective, people tend to overestimate their parents' physical condition, and her co-star Bryan Wong couldn't help but concur.
“They really are getting old, but as children, we don’t want to face that reality," sighed Bryan.
"So we make excuses for them, saying they’re lazy or don’t want to go out. But perhaps the truth is simply that their physical strength is no longer what it used to be.”
