KLIA Outranks Changi Airport In World’s Most Instagrammable Airports List, And M’sian Netizens Find The Results Hilarious Too

Which airports are featured on Instagram most often? Aviation website Simple Flying recently conducted a research, where they surveyed hashtags on Instagram associated with the 50 busiest airports in the world. 

Los Angeles International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and London Heathrow Airport took the first three places respectively, while Kuala Lumpur International Airport placed fourth with over 600K hashtags. It overtook, believe it or not, Singapore's Changi Airport, which came in fifth. 

Guess our Jewel Rain Vortex is just not as Instagrammable as KLIA's... wait, what does KLIA have?

“KLIA is famous for its indoor lush greenery called the Jungle Boardwalk, and it received 47 million passengers in 2023,” read Simple Flying’s description of KLIA.

Malaysian netizens were more tickled by how KLIA even made it into the Top 5. 

“I want double of what the judges are smoking,” laughed one netizen, while another stated: “Even as a Malaysian, don’t joke bro.”

Another netizen also explained that the online hashtags would likely include a mixture of both positive and negative posts. 

“I remember taking photos of the train always not working, maybe that’s why,” read a hilarious comment. 

Others also questioned the purpose of the survey, with a few calling it a “substandard comparison with no common criteria”. 

“What’s the point [of this] if the quality and service is nowhere near Changi Airport’s?” wrote a netizen, while another opined that “even Changi’s oldest terminal is still better than KLIA’s”. 

We’re pretty sure the survey was not made with the intention of making Malaysians throw shade at their own airport, but if the comments are any indication, it seems the majority feels KLIA is not deserving of being in fourth place.
