Kimberly Wang Had A Stalker Who Tried To Get Into The Same Cab As Her One Night

Spoiler alert: Kim, who shared how she was stalked for almost a year-and-a-half by a man she didn’t know, was revealed to be telling the truth.

According to the 30-year-old actress and 987FM jock, she first met her ‘superfan’ after ending her DJ shift one night at the old Mediacorp campus on Caldecott Hill.

As she was leaving the building to hail a cab after midnight, she heard someone calling her name and turned around to see a guy just staring at her. Thinking that he was just a fan who wanted a selfie, they took a photo together, after which the man handed her something in a plastic bag.

Kim accepted the gift and thanked him, but things quickly got weird. When she was boarding her taxi, the man opened the door on the other side, as if casually intending to get in and follow her home. Yikes.

“I said I was taking this cab and asked him to take another one home, and he was just like, ‘Oh, okay.’ I thought it was strange, so I quickly got on, closed both doors, and told the driver to get us out of there,” she recalled.

It gets even weirder. When Kim got home and looked inside the bag, she found a bottle of medicated oil that had already been opened.

A 987 intern later discovered the superfan’s social media account, which included a picture of that same bottle of medicated oil with the caption, “I know you’re hurt, this is for you to help with your bruises”, leading an understandably creeped out Kim to wonder how on earth he even knew about her injuries.

Upon further scrolling, the intern noticed that the fan had been dedicating daily posts to Kim, as if having a ‘conversation’ with her via his captions.

The stalker’s obsession with Kim was so bad that he even tweeted about waiting in vain until 3am for her to get off work. Kim quickly informed her boss about the situation, and arrangements were made to allow cabbies to drive into the Mediacorp car park to pick her up, which was usually not allowed.

“I would lie flat on the seat as the cab exited the building ‘cos I knew he was waiting for me outside,” she said.

Once, a taxi driver asked Kim why she was being so mean to her “boyfriend” who was waiting for her outside every night. To her horror, she learned that the driver had actually told the stalker which area she lives in, but fortunately, no unpleasant incidents took place ‘cos of that dangerous bit of oversharing.

The stalking finally stopped after the fan decided that he wanted to ‘break up’ with Kim, but the poor girl is still traumatised from the experience.

When asked what advice Kim has for other artistes, especially newcomers, who might face a similar situation, she said, “You must tell somebody about it ‘cos you never know what could happen, and once something does happen, it might be hard for others to help you.”
