Over the past few weeks, many local artistes have taken to social media to share words of encouragement, as well as practical tips to combat the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak.

On Monday (Feb 10), Julie Tan offered up a more unique perspective on how the residents of Wuhan, China — ground zero of the epidemic — have been dealing with the situation, courtesy of a long-time friend and former schoolmate of hers who is from the city.

“Today, I’d like to share a story by my friend, Ella,” wrote the actress, 27. “Ella is from Wuhan but she has been in Singapore for 10 years and we go a long way back, since our NAFA days.” Quick background info: Julie graduated with a Diploma in Theatre (Mandarin Drama) from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2013.

According to Ella, this Chinese New Year in Wuhan was far from festive. Usual greetings like “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and “Xin Nian Kuai Le” were replaced with wishes for good health.
