Joakim Gomez Asks Out Taiwanese Vlogger Who Went Viral For Calling Singaporean Men Stingy; She Turns Him Down
By now you would have heard about Taiwanese food vlogger Alison Wu's controversial video where she described Singapore men as "stingy".
She had recounted a date she went on with a local man at a coffee shop.
"I ordered a cup of teh peng which cost S$1.50. After he ordered, he said: 'The $1.50, you need to pay me back.' That made me go: 'Huh?'" recalled Alison.
"More importantly, I gave him a two-dollar note and told him to keep the change. He replied 'Oh okay' and took the $2, which meant that he made a 50 cent profit," she lamented, adding that she never went out with guy again.
Alison's anecdote went on to polarise netizens.
While there were those who agreed with Alison's negative assesment of Singaporean men, others stood up for the local male population.
"She must have dated every Singaporean guy to make a statement like that," said one netizen.
Some also felt that the guy was just not into Alison.
Guess who decided to take it upon himself to change Alison's impression of Singaporean men? 987FM DJ Joakim Gomez, 35.
Taking to his Instagram to talk about the video, Joakim asserted: "No need to generalise all Singaporean men. We're not all that bad."
"I'm openly asking you out for a meal. If it all goes to shit, I still pay for your teh peng so it's a win-win for you," he wrote, going on to tag Alison in his Story.
Sadly, Alison turned down Joakim's date.
Reposting his IGS, Alison wrote: "Hi Mr Gomez, the experience shared in the interview was based on my very first and only bad experience dating an SG man. It was not meant for generalisation and I have stated this clearly during the interview. I sincerely hope you do not take this personally."
"With regards to your kind invitation, I would like to politely decline. Thank you. Cheers," she added.
Joakim's response? "Ah wells. More teh peng for me."
