JJ Lin’s Listening Party For His New Album Was Also A Gathering Of His Famous Fanboys

Which super popular idol burst into tears when JJ agreed to attend his birthday concert?

JJ Lin’s Listening Party For His New Album Was Also A Gathering Of His Famous Fanboys

We were about twenty minutes into the listening party for JJ Lin’s brand new two-part album Drifter • Like You Do on Monday night (Oct 19) when DJ Kunhua of Mediacorp radio station YES 933, who was ‘attending’ via Zoom just like us and dozens of others from across Asia, was invited to ask the singer a question.

As soon as host Mickey Huang mentioned the word “Singapore”, Taipei-based JJ, 39, immediately became emotional and dramatically cried out, “I miss home so much! I want to go home!”

Sadly, as much as the Lion City sorely misses its national treasure too, everyone knows that travelling around freely is pretty tough at the moment for reasons we do not need to elaborate on (ahem, a global pandemic). This era of safe distancing was why the ‘audience’ at the listening party was a bunch of faces on webcam feeds being shown on the three walls behind JJ and Mickey.

It honestly felt very Black Mirror -esque (which can probably be said about 2020 as a whole), but we were too excited to be among the first to listen to snippets of JJ’s latest songs to really be bothered about that.
