JJ Lin Says He Only Allows Himself To Cry In His Bedroom... And The Cinema
JJ met the media last night (Apr 30) over Zoom to promote his new single with British singer Anne-Marie.
It's 6pm on Friday night but instead of knocking back shooters, we're on a Zoom call with 50 other journalists shooting questions at two very special guests: local music wunderkind JJ Lin, 40, and British singer Anne-Marie, 30.
The pair released their duet 'Bedroom' on April 23, and are now busy promoting the catchy tune, hence this Zoom meeting.
JJ, who was speaking to us from his fancy recording studio in his Taipei home, and Anne-Marie, who looked like she was chilling in her bedroom in the UK, were chipper as they entertained the many queries the media had for them.
And because the media came from all over Asia, including those from Taiwan, Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia, and China, it looked, at one point, that Anne-Marie had difficulty understanding what the journos were asking because of all the different accents.
But JJ, ever the gentleman, took the initiative to answer first so that his duet partner would have an easier time deciphering what was asked.

'Bedroom', which is in English and which was recorded without the two stars having to meet face-to-face, was written by Anne-Marie after she had dumped someone who didn’t appreciate her.
“I was very sad about it but I was laughing at the same time, because I felt so strong (…) when they realised what they’d lost [during the breakup],” she laughed.
JJ then added that his interpretation of the song was a little different.
He said: “I see the song from two different dimensions — one is [the version that Anne-Marie mentioned]. It’s a song about a broken relationship between two people. But I also see this as a song two people are singing from their own perspective. I hope that listeners can get in tune with their inner selves, because we need time to let go of things and heal ourselves, and crying is a crucial, important step of rediscovering yourself.”
What could you possibly cry about JJ?
Speaking of crying and because a line in "Bedroom' goes, ‘You’re crying in your bedroom cos I’ve gone and left you’, where would JJ cry if something got him down?
“I only allow myself to cry in two places,” he admitted with a smile. “One of them is the movie theatre where it’s dark and people can’t see... and if I get very emotional I would shed a tear or two. The other place is the bedroom, and it wouldn’t just be a tear or two; it’d be all out.”
JJ also made sure to give a shoutout to all the guys who think that being emotional isn't macho. “Crying is perfectly normal, even for guys! Just let it out," he said.
