Jeremy Chan Says He & Jesseca Liu Have Not Had A Single Fight In Their 3 Years Of Marriage

It started when we asked him about his most memorable moment on set, which is a rather mundane and run-of-the-mill question for interviews like this, but we got so much more than we bargained for.

“I think it was my nude scene,” he said, quickly explaining that his character was supposed to be invisible (remember, this is a show with supernatural elements) before the effects wore off and left him standing there naked. Of course, Jeremy was actually wearing shorts during filming, but ‘cos the camera kept catching unwanted glimpses of the garment, he had to keep folding the shorts lower and lower until they were essentially like briefs.

“I was like, ‘Okay, can see my ass or not?’ (Guffaws) I was really paiseh and afraid of exposing myself ‘cos some of the crew members were girls who are quite young and might feel paiseh too. That was one of the more embarrassing parts,” he said.

If you, like we did, are wondering why Jeremy didn’t just save himself the trouble and wear actual briefs or swimming trunks instead, let us relay to you the hilarious tale he told us about why he pretty much has a phobia of wearing tiny bottoms, which he claimed he has never shared with the media before.

Let's take a trip back to 25 years ago, when Jeremy was in Secondary 1 or 2. He and his male classmates went swimming at a public pool, where he spotted a group of pretty girls in a corner. Cue raging teen hormones.

According to Jeremy, boys would usually try to “act shuai (handsome)” to impress the girls by taking one big step out of the pool onto the deck instead of climbing out using the ladder. So that’s exactly what he tried to do… but it did not go as planned.

“I hadn’t worn my trunks in a very long time so the elastic had worn out. When I lifted my right leg up onto the deck to push myself out, the girls started giggling, and my friends were laughing as well. I went up to my friends to ask what was going on, and they told me, ‘When you lifted your leg up, you zao geng (accidental exposure) leh! Your trunks were so loose they could see [everything]!’ From then on, I never went to a public pool or wore trunks ever again.”

Although it happened such a long time ago, Jeremy said the whole incident is still as clear as day in his mind. “I shared this story on set when they asked why I wouldn’t just wear swimming trunks [for the nude scene], and everyone kept laughing leh!” Well, can’t say we blame them.

Even today, Jeremy confessed that he finds himself wondering what those girls he flashed are doing and if they would recognise him now. “I still remember thinking that they were giggling in a (flirty voice) ‘Oh, hello’ way,” he laughed.

Well, at least we all know he managed to impress one gal without making a complete fool of himself (or at least, we don’t think he did). On National Day this year, Jeremy celebrated his third ROM anniversary with wife Jesseca Liu, and he gleefully gushed that married life has been “very good” so far. In fact, he reported that the couple has not gotten into a single fight since tying the knot. Nope, not even during the circuit breaker period.

“Heng ah, touch wood, touch wood!” he exclaimed. “Maybe it’s ‘cos of our character lah. We both know how to accommodate each other, and once you have that, it’ll be the same whether you’re with your partner, family, or friends.”

We’re certainly not the only one who found this impressive. “I also told this to another reporter the other day and she was like, ‘Huh!? No fighting in three years!?’ I said, ‘Eh, you need to shout meh?’ (Laughs) But yeah, touch wood!”

And they don’t really get into smaller arguments either. “For example, during the circuit breaker, she wanted to revamp our furniture by sanding and repainting everything, but I didn’t want to do it.” Instead of throwing a hissy fit (not that we expected her to), Jess was totally chill about it and simply decided to do everything herself, only for her husband to willingly join her halfway.

Looks like Jeremy isn’t just a Super Dad star — he’s a real-life Super Husband.
