Jeanette Aw Used To Think Green & Purple Coloured Contacts Were Cool

“I don't use foundation when I film as I want to allow my skin to breathe. I think it helped in keeping my skin in good condition after so many years. If I had done 20-hour shoots with thick foundation on, I’d definitely have had an outbreak. Recently, I’ve been using CC cream. One beauty hack is that I mix it with facial oil to lighten the texture and apply it on my face. I use it as a concealer under the eyes to cover my dark circles. It’s very light yet it gives coverage. The facial oil also helps to keep my face moisturised for a longer time.”

“When I was in university, coloured contacts were all the rage so I had them in blue, purple and green — all the colours I could possibly get my hands on. I won’t call this my worst beauty fail or anything but it was a very experimental stage for me (laughs). I didn't feel self-conscious though 'cos my group of friends were very quirky as well. We also had blue and pink hair — it was a period of time when we were going crazy with colours!”

“I used to be super tanned ’cos I was a swimmer and we spent hours in the pool. But I don’t regret being in the sun so much ’cos it’s part of my lifestyle then. When I was filming The Champion (2004), I trained with the national team for a month and when the shoot started, I was so dark that I looked like a professional swimmer. These days, however, I slather on sunblock wherever I go, and reapply every few hours. If I’m filming under the hot sun, I carry my umbrella around with me as I don’t want to get ugly tan lines! (Laughs)”

“I’ve been quite lucky. My mum has very good skin. In fact, I think she has better skin than me! She’s been taking really good care of herself and it matters. When I was very young, I remember going with her to her facial sessions, and I’d wonder why she has to go for all these treatments. I see the effects of it now, and I think it’s important to pamper and take care of yourself. I’ve got my mum to thank for the good genes.”
