Japanese Travel Blogger Wears Iconic Sarong Kebaya For SQ Flight, Amuses Cabin Crew
Did anyone ask her for a hot towel or drink during the flight?
The Singapore Airlines sarong kebaya is more than 50 years old and is still one of the most recognisable of uniforms today.
A travel blogger by the username travel.saya was travelling from Jakarta’s Sukarno Hatta International Airport to Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Instead of dressing for comfort, travel.saya decided to dress like a Singapore Girl and don the iconic sarong kebaya before boarding flight SQ 957.
Naturally, the crew was surprised to see a passenger dressed like them and flashed a welcoming smile to her.
As travel.saya walked to her seat, she garnered laughter from her 'fellow SQ girls’, with one seemingly pointing out they were dressed the same.
In another video, the crew was also seen gamely taking pictures with her.
We wondered what the other passengers thought about her outfit, and did anyone mistakenly ask her for a hot towel?
The video has since garnered more than 3.3mil views.
“You look amazing! And the reactions from the crew are so welcoming too,” read a comment.
Another also praised Saiya writing, “You must really love Singapore Airlines.”
However, one surmised, “Even though the crew were all smiles, they were probably thinking, “What the heck is this person doing?”
It seems she got wind of the criticism and in another post defended her decision to wear the sarong kebaya on board her flight.
“Singapore Airlines assured me that there is absolutely no problem dressing as one of their cabin crew while boarding,” she wrote.
Considering how well the video did on Instagram, we wonder if she will now dress in the uniforms of other airlines.
Scoot, maybe?
