Insta-Buzz: What The Stars Were Up To This Week
Here are some of our favourite snaps from the past week.

We could do with some positive vibes after these rather dramatic past few weeks, so we were happy to see posts that were heart-warming, encouraging, and just put smiles on our faces.

Thomas Ong stood up for Shane Pow following his drink driving charge
Just like Mark Lee, Thomas believes that Shane, who was slapped with a DUI charge on April 22 and will be parting ways with Mediacorp next week, deserves to be given a chance to turn over a new leaf.
He also called out keyboard warriors for their self-righteousness and called Shane — whom he didn’t mention by name but it’s still pretty obvious — a “kind and motivated young man”.
“I’m not asking everyone to let go and forgive him right away,” wrote Thomas. “All I want is for everyone to give him some time and space to think about his mistakes.”

Elvin Ng and Paige Chua showed their support for Shane Pow
Also putting in a good word for Shane was Elvin, who is playing his brother in upcoming long-form drama The Heartland Hero (at least, until episode 31, after which Shane’s role will be taken over by James Seah). The pair had their last day on set together on Thursday.
“You’re one of the easiest actors to work with, relaxed, adaptable, and flexible, always light and in good cheer, no airs, with good #humour and #favour, well-liked and a #joy to be around (sic),” Elvin gushed alongside two of their wefies.
Paige later uploaded her own pic with Shane and wrote: “He has goodness in his eyes. I’ve seen it. I’ve felt it. Hey, @shanepowxp we'll miss u... Go pay your dues, get some rest, have your little adventure, n then be back soon. U still have much to give (sic).”
While Shane didn’t leave any comments, we’re sure he appreciated the gestures very much.

Angel Lim responded to report about Elvin Ng calling her “unprofessional”
Shane certainly hasn’t been the only one making headlines in recent weeks. Remember the whole Elvin Ng bullying saga, after which Dasmond Koh stepped in to drop a bomb about an “unpleasant incident” between Elvin and rookie actress Angel Lim, who is under Dasmond’s Noontalk Media?
Elvin has since responded to the allegations in Mediacorp series #JustSwipeLah… but a local Chinese daily twisted his words by making it sound like he had accused Angel of being “unprofessional” when what he really said was that she “has to be professional”. Totally different.
Sharing a scan of the article on her IG, Angel said that the way the headline was worded made her “feel a bit wronged”, and that she doesn’t believe that’s what Elvin meant.
“He wants us newcomers to be professional, he wasn’t calling me ‘unprofessional’,” she clarified.
Angel then apologised for the trouble this incident has caused everyone, and vowed to use every opportunity to work hard and become a better artiste.

Suhaimi Yusof shared three ways to respond to haters on social media
And speaking of keyboard warriors, here are three possible ways to react to strangers who creep into your Facebook, Instagram, etc. to leave nasty or hurtful comments, as told by the Noose star: Delete the comments, block the commenter, and/or respond in a respectful way.
“I know we are experiencing the same thing globally. While most are supportive, some are just rude. As much as they think they are free to say anything they want on your wall, you are also free to delete and block them,” he said.

Gavin Teo dedicated a super sweet post to his girlfriend Chen Yixin
It’s been a difficult time for Gavin as his mother recently passed away in Johor Bahru, but he credits his girlfriend Yixin (aka Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun’s daughter) for helping him to pull through.
“Thank you for being the light in my darkness, for being my biggest support no matter how busy your filming schedule in Batam is, for making me feel your strong presence and warmth despite me being quarantined alone here in Malaysia,” he wrote in his birthday tribute to her.

Ase Wang’s husband graduated from Harvard
The Phoon Huat scion’s husband and baby daddy, Chinese-American entrepreneur Jon Lor, completed his studies at Harvard and while we doubt he could have a proper graduation ceremony ‘cos of COVID and all, Ase still threw a little celebration for him.
We love how their daughter Kaya already kinda looks like she’s stressing out over having to live up to her dad’s stellar educational background in this picture.

Aimee Chan celebrated her daughter’s birthday
Unfortunately, Moses Chan was unable to make it back to Hongkong from China, where he has been working for the past couple of months, to celebrate his daughter Camilla’s fifth birthday on April 27.
Fortunately, he could still join the party through a video call, and the whole family could still take a ‘group photo’ together. We’re sure he’ll make it up to them in a really awesome way when he’s back home.

How many birthday cakes did Joanne Peh have this year?
Also celebrating her birthday this week was Joanne, who blew out the candles on at least five different cakes of all shapes, sizes, and styles, including some pretty unusual-looking ones. Seriously, how many did she have!?
But of course, being around her loved ones was way more important. “Thank you for the well wishes, cakes, flowers, gifts and special birthday plans,” she wrote. “I’ve spent it most meaningfully, with the people who matter and am most grateful to live another year to be in all your company.”

We wonder what kind of advice Chin Han gave Pierre Png
Say hello to two Singaporean stars who have made us proud in Hollywood!
Earlier this week, Pierre posted what we believe is a throwback from his catch-up with US-based Chin Han when the latter was back in town, thanking him for the advice — oooh, wonder what they talked about — and taking the opportunity to promote Chin Han’s new film Mortal Kombat.

Sheila Sim brought her daughter to work
While we reckon it’s usually quite hard for actors to bring their very young kids to the set with them, Sheila only had one short scene to do, so she decided to bring seven-month-old Layla with her to meet other people and see her mama at work.
According to Sheila, her baby girl “smiled, played, laughed and was carried around by everyone”, a completely different sight from the past, when Layla would cry whenever strangers held her. The child also watched her mother on screen for the very first time, making Sheila swell up with pride. Too cute!

Wu Chun left his family for work in China again
After his previous overseas work trip to China, the Bruneian star told himself that he wouldn’t travel again during the pandemic as he couldn’t take being away from his family for so long.
Alas, duty called, and he was soon making his way back to China again… but not before getting kisses and words of encouragement from his two kids, and seeing his wife secretly whipping up one of his favourite dishes to bring with him.
“Family will always be my strongest support,” he wrote. “They are the reason. Period!”

Jean Danker remembered her late mum
April 29 marked eight years since Jean’s mum passed away, so the DJ decided to pay tribute by buying her mother’s favourite orchids in her favourite colours.
When she was unable to find a vase short enough to put them in, she “serendipitously” settled on a teapot that her mum had given her when Jean bought her first home, which “only gets taken out and used on special occasions”.

Lina Ng bid goodbye to her family car of 14 years
After faithfully serving Lina, her husband, and their three boys for 14 years and over 441,000km, their blue Toyota finally broke down earlier this week, one year before it was scheduled to be scrapped.
The family’s now on the lookout for a new ride, with Lina considering both brand new and secondhand options. Feel free to shoot her some suggestions — or any lobangs? — on her Instagram!

Constance Song took her daughter horse-riding
Ask and ye shall receive. That’s what happened when little Olethea finally got her wish to try horse-riding after bugging her mama for it non-stop.
“Now she wants to save money to buy a horse, and I’m somewhat relieved that at least she wants a real horse and not the other horse, a Ferrari!” Constance quipped in her caption. Well, not yet, at least.

Jimmy Lin showed how fast his son Kimi is growing
After letting his eldest son appear on TV for all the world to see, Jimmy now prefers to let Kimi live a more private and low-key life, rarely sharing photos of the 11-year-old on social media.
However, he decided to make an exception recently and posted the above pics of him, his wife Kelly Chen, and Kimi with Jolin Tsai, which were taken a year apart. As you can see, Kimi is going through a pretty intense growth spurt, and will likely be catching up to his 1.72m-tall dad’s height in no time. He’s already almost as tall as Jolin!
