Ian Fang’s Friends, Ex Colleagues On His Sex Offences With Minor Charges & Jail Sentence

On May 19, former Mediacorp actor Ian Fang, 35, was sentenced to 40 months’ jail term after pleading guilty to sexual offences with a minor. He will begin serving his sentence on June 16.

Ian was allowed to defer his jail term to that date to settle his personal affairs. His bail was increased by S$10,000.

The case has disappointed many of Ian's former colleagues and pals in the industry.

When local Chinese news site Shin Min Daily News reached out to Christopher Lee, he reportedly sighed before saying: “I do not know what to say”. He then declined to further elaborate on the matter.

Chris is known to be close to Ian, with the latter calling him as ‘shi fu’, or 'teacher' in Mandarin. However, last year, Ian revealed he no longer calls Chris shi fu now but ‘big brother’ as he feels he had disappointed Chris after his leaked DMs scandal in 2019.

Former Mediacorp actress Le Yao wrote an Instagram post alluding to Ian’s sentence. She penned: “The spotlight can be a double-edged sword. It can allow you to become everyone’s idol but can also bring you back square one overnight.”

“You wish to enjoy the good things fame has brought you, but you don’t set high expectations for yourself to become a good example for others? You want to have influence and rake in big bucks, but don’t want to be a law-abiding citizen?” she questioned.

She said she was disappointed to read the news lately and asked that the person she's directing her message at “first learn to act like a decent person before acting in shows”.

She later admitted in an interview with 8world that her post was in response to Ian. Like Ian, Le Yao hails from Shanghai, China, and was a Mediacorp artiste.

Le Yao now runs a drama company for kids, not unlike Ian who had a stint as drama instructor for children after leaving Mediacorp. in 2023.

“As a person working in the education field, and as a mother, I feel very strongly about this,” said Le Yao.

Love 972 jock Dennis Chew also spoke to the media. Dennis directed local band The Freshman’s ‘Cheng Qiang’ music video in 2010, and had cast Ian to star in it.

Dennis said: “[Ian] is actually a very good and professional actor. He can [start anew] after having the courage to admit to his mistakes and to accept the punishment he deserves.”

Ian’s known acquaintances, Li Nanxing and Simonboy, declined to comment when contacted by Shin Min Daily News.

When 8days.sg reached out to Ian’s pals Elvin Ng and Shane Pow for comment, they, too, declined to speak on the issue.

Ian's Instagram account @ian_ianization and his pictures on Facebook have since been deleted.

The s
ocial media pages run by Ian’s fan club have also been abandoned.

His primary fan page, ‘ianizationfc’ on Facebook, still has 4400 followers, but has remained inactive since March 2021. His fan group on Telegram was last updated in late 2022, while his IG fan page ‘wegoianstyle’ made its last post in 2020.
