Singaporean Singer Huang Yida Announces Comeback On 43rd Birthday; Now Sporting New Old Look

The singer has focused on his music production work in recent years.

Singaporean rocker Huang Yida, whom many know for his hit 2005 song 'She Told Me' ('那女孩對我說'), is ready to make his return to the spotlight.

The singer updated his Chinese social media accounts for the first time in months yesterday, on his 43rd birthday, sharing that he will be making a comeback.

Wait, he's 43 already?!

Yida started his singing career in 2004 and his hits over the years include ‘Anonymous Darling’ ('匿名的寶貝') and ‘Blue Sky’ ('藍天').

His career was overshadowed by his battles with depression and alcoholism, and he retreated from the limelight after releasing his greatest hits album Journey in 2009.

According to reports, he also got ordained as a monk for two weeks in Chiang Mai around that time.

All dressed down

A few years later, he started dabbling in music again but this time as a producer.

Recently, it was reported that Yida will be appearing on the second season of Chinese reality competition, Call Me By Fire.

Much like Sisters Who Make Waves, the show features famous male stars competing to form a pop group. Call Me By Fire's second season is set to premiere soon.

And now, with Yida’s latest social media posts, it seems like the reports may be true.

In his post, Yida thanked everyone for the birthday wishes, and announced that he has started accounts on Chinese social networking apps Xiaohongshu, as well as Douyin.

Music on his mind (and cake).

In a video posted on Douyin, Yida mused: “In the future, I hope that everyone will be able to slow down their pace, to see, hear, discover, and feel the warmth that emits from each of our lives.”

Unlike the short-cropped hair he favoured in recent years, it seems like Yida has returned to his roots, sporting a chin-length bob.

This is still Yida's profile picture on Weibo.

Fans were very pleased to know that Yida’s back, with many writing that they still listen to his songs.

“Wow, it has been 20 years already,” one fan wrote, while another wrote that Yida’s songs were "the soundtrack of my high school years”.

And this is how he looks like now.
