YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo Lost Her Voice; Turned To A TCM Clinic Recommended By Listener
Listeners very kindly wrote in with suggestions after hearing her hoarse voice on air.
It’s easy to imagine how stressful it would be for a radio jock to lose their voice — like a writer injuring their hand, or a musician losing their instrument.
Unfortunately, that’s what happened to YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo, who took to Instagram to share about her visit to a TCM clinic in a bid to “get her voice back”.
Speaking to 8days.sg, the 31-year-old confesses she lost her voice a week ago after having “one too many fried foods” while filming for her YouTube travel vlog in Ipoh.
“But it was so worth it,” she adds, hinting that the vlog she gladly sacrificed her voice for will drop at the end of the month.
Even with a sore throat, Hazelle returned to work and went back on air, and her listeners caught on right away.
“My listeners heard my hoarse voice on the radio and they buay tahan, [so they] had to send me some recommendations,” she laughs.
One listener suggested Hazelle visit a TCM clinic which she said helped her regain her lost voice in two days.
Hazelle received the text during the start of her weekday radio show belt (4-8pm) on Monday afternoon (Dec 8), and by 8.30pm, she was already having her pulse read at the clinic in Queenstown, which “happened to be very near Mediacorp”.
“Apparently this doctor is quite famous. He’s been on TV and radio shows quite a number of times! The clinic is Gian Min Medical Centre, and doctor Wong San Yong is 82 this year, and really, really experienced,” she shares.
“He read my pulse and checked my tongue. His wife, who is also a doctor, did this funny thing with my neck and forehead and they concluded I’m rather well! No fever, just that my voice was not coming back,” says Hazelle.
She adds with a laugh: “They gave me some liquid medicine and little black pills to eat. I have to count eight balls, and eat it twice a day.”
When we ask if she sought any medical help earlier on, she sheepishly admits: “No, I don’t know why I was under the impression I could take things in my own hands, and I would heal fast. [That was a] bad choice.”
Speedy recovery, Hazelle!
