This Hawker Stall Will Stay Open Over CNY, Thanks To... Two Double-Yolked Eggs

This Korean fried chicken hawker left his schedule up to destiny, and it was pretty egg-citing to say the least.

This Hawker Stall Will Stay Open Over CNY, Thanks To... Two Double-Yolked Eggs

Who needs to flip a coin when you can leave your fate up to double-yolked eggs?

A hawker in Singapore left left it to destiny to decide if he should open his hawker stalls over the Lunar New Year break — and destiny apparently really wanted fried chicken.

In a video posted to Instagram, Kenny Ngoo, the owner of Salt Fried Chicken hawker stalls in Old Airport Road Food Centre and CIMB Plaza, shared that he was leaving it to chance to decide if he should open his stall over CNY.

“If I crack one egg, and it’s a double yolk, I will open for Chinese New Year,” the 31-year-old said before choosing an egg to crack into a frying pan.

Lo and behold, it turned out to be a double-yolked egg. Unconvinced, he tried again and the second egg also turned out to have two yolks.

Clearly stunned by his sudden ‘luck’, Kenny asked ChatGPT about the odds that an egg is double-yolked.

Apparently the chances of getting a double-yolk egg in a standard supermarket carton are roughly one in 1,000, or about 0.1 per cent.

The bigger question is, how rare is it to have two such eggs back-to-back? One in a million?

Or… Did Kenny already buy a carton that only had eggs with double yolks?

And yes, it is possible to buy cartons containing only double-yolk eggs.

Double yolks typically occur when a young hen's reproductive cycle is not yet fully regulated, causing her to release two yolks in quick succession, or due to environmental factors in older hens.

Netizens were tickled by Kenny’s failed attempt to score a break during the Lunar New Year.

“For that, I’ll come down with my friends to support you,” read a comment.

In the comments, Kenny wrote that Salt Fried Chicken's Old Airport Road stall will be open on February 16 to 21 and will be taking their usual days off on Fridays and Sundays.

The outlet at CIMB plaza will stay closed from February 16 to 20.

Now, how many double-yolks would it take for him to also open the CBD outlet during Chinese New Year?
