Pamela Lee Nur Shuhadah's clapbacks to questions like “Why are you still single?” should be taught to everyone with nosy aunties and uncles.

SG TikToker Shares Her Perfect Comebacks For Kaypoh Relatives During Hari Raya

While most of us look forward to festive occasions, where we get to feast on good food and meet up with family we don’t see often, there’s also one thing we’re probably not as excited about: nosy relatives and their incessant questions about marriage and babies.

It's why we totally love influencer Pamela Lee Nur Shuhadah's recent series of TikToks that showed her practising her Malay so she could stand up to nosy relatives during Hari Raya visiting.

Pamela's TikTok page (@leeshuhadah) is filled with skits and funny storytimes, and to date she has over 40K followers on the platform. Prior to TikTok, she is best known for her two-year stint at SGAG from 2019-2021, where she appeared in their vids as the oft-exasperated ‘Intern Pam’.

According to her bio, Pamela is “not very good at [her] mother tongues”, which are Malay and Mandarin, but like all of us, is trying her best. And it must be said that when it comes to her clapbacks, her Malay sounded pretty on point.

In the first of her three-part series, titled “Practising my Malay to stand up to my relatives during Hari Raya”, Pam filmed her response to potentially being asked by a relative about why she is still single.

“Because your son is married already,” she first replied.

After a moment’s pause, where the other party reacts in shock, she went on this long spiel: “ Eh, why you give that face? You ask, I answer lah. I’m very sad you know, I liked your son so much! I’m very good you know, I can cook, I can wash and fold clothes, I can do it all! So if you want me be to be your daughter-in-law, you faster go and make another baby boy. I can wait. If you don’t have another baby it’s okay, your grandson also can. I’m not fussy, if there’s a mate, I’ll take it!"

Though Pamela is already married, she provided a good template for her followers who might be pestered with the same question during Hari Raya visiting.

“Wouldn’t that mean [the person you like] is your cousin?” asked one netizen, who we hope managed to catch the sarcasm in the clip.

In her second vid, Pam went head to head with an ‘older relative who is always probing about babies’.

“Okay, later I go home, I order from Shopee okay? I see you make baby like so easy like that, you have five [children] right? You got discount code is it? Can share with me? You want me to make baby right? If you don’t have [discount code] it’s okay, give me ang bao also can! Sponsor me a bit lah, now don’t have free delivery anymore you know, inflation mah. You can Paynow, Paylah, Googlepay, cash also can,” said Pamela.

Again, her followers loved her reaction with some sharing their own experiences.

“When my aunt ask me when I’m gonna get married, I always say tomorrow I go look for a DIY husband in IKEA,” wrote one netizen. Others also shared their plans to use her tactic this year.

In the last video, Pamela took on body-shamers. “Gain weight, problem. Lose weight also problem. How like that?” she captioned her vid.

“Wah you very slim now hor, why ah? Your husband never feed you ah?” said a voice off-camera.

To that, Pamela had this savage reply: “Because you always eat the pineapple tarts I want to eat. You hold onto that bottle like [you’re] holding on to a baby. It’s very precious is it? Maybe that’s why you’re also like a baby, your neck also cannot see.”

She then took the bottle of pineapple tarts from her 'relative', while telling them off for “not having any manners”.

“You already never give ang bao, kueh also don’t want to give!” she huffed.

Since Hari Raya celebrations are still ongoing, perhaps we can all pick up a tip or two from Pamela’s hilarious videos, and maybe even save the clapbacks for future festive gatherings.
