Is Glenn Yong off the market?

In the recent episode of local musician Shin's podcast Shin Get’s Real, the 29-year-old Ah Girls Go Army star revealed his current relationship status for the first time.

“I am currently dating,” he said candidly, though he was hesitant to divulge whether his partner is also in showbiz.

Glenn added that he's actually ready to settle down anytime as long as he "finds the right person" whom he thinks is of marriage material, and that his currently relationship has been "so far so good".

When Shin mused: "You'd need to meet a few wrong ones to be able to cherish the right one", Glenn readily agreed.

Because he has had his fair share of "toxic" ex-girlfriends too.

Glenn shared that he had two toxic relationships, though the first one definitely takes the cake.

He said the aforementioned girlfriend's behaviour was "worse than manipulation", which Shin described as the usual toxic trait in relationships.

"Initially, it was okay. I think at that time I had a saviour complex. When you see the girl's flaws, you'd want to help her," he recalled.

For instance, if the girl was constantly jealous, lacked a sense of security or had certain mental health issues, Glenn thought back then: "It's okay, I can save her. I can make her feel more secure."

"That's the biggest mistake," he concluded.

According to Glenn, his ex would allegedly take sleeping pills and tell him that she wanted to commit suicide.

"If you don't meet her demands, she would keep swallowing the pills — one per minute — until you satisfy her wants," he said.

During their earlier dating days, the ex-girlfriend would also look through all the people he was following on Instagram and filter through all the girls.

"She would ask me one by one, 'Who's this, has she had a crush on you?' Even if I never liked the girl but she liked me, I would get [into trouble] too," he exclaimed.

As a result, he was made to unfollow many people, including a very close friend.

"The friend scolded me like crazy, but I didn't have a choice! If I didn't unfollow, [my girlfriend] would swallow pills!" he said.

This ordeal lasted for a year. "And it wasn't just her. Her mother had anger management issues too," Glenn recounted.

"[Her mum] was really crazy and was the type who would hit people. She almost hit me too and would throw my laptop. It was a scary family, I'm just so glad it is over."

So how did Glenn finally make the decision to walk away?

"For certain things you'd reach a stage where you realise this is too much to handle. I obviously reached a point when I was worried I would be killed. I think for the sake of the both of us, if you're so unhappy with me, how about I just leave?" he said.

His then girlfriend, however, would not let him go.

"Every time I ask to break up, she would say: 'Why do you give up on us?', and would blackmail me emotionally," he explained.

"I kept getting gaslit until I said: 'Okay lah, if you give your best, I also want to give my best', and endured for a year. But my family and friends all pitied me and saw how haggard I became."

Glenn also felt bad for his ex and her mum because they were "obviously going through stuff that's why they are like that".

"I mean, how would normal people have such [behaviour]," he added. "But of course that's not an excuse to hurt people, which they obviously are [doing]."

The dealbreaker, though, according to Glenn, was when the girl ended up having an affair.

"She had a private account and we had a mutual friend. I don't know why she didn't think that the mutual friend would tell me," recalled the actor.

"I was devastated. In this kind of relationship I gave my best and you still cheated on me. Bro it's like the worst thing ever!"

He doesn't know his ex was already in a relationship with the other guy at that time, but said what he saw was that "they were kissing".

But did he feel heartbroken or relieved that he could finally leave the relationship?

"It was heartbreak first. I'm the kind that would commit all the way in a relationship, even if things turn sour," he asserted.

"To me, if I said I would take care of you, I would. I believe everyone has different phases in life. If you're hurting a little bit more, I don't mind, because I love you, I will try to be there."

Still, the only thing he cannot accept is infidelity.

"That one, how to take it? How can I still give my love to you if you're with someone else. It doesn't make sense."

He immediately broke up with the girl, who surprisingly did not bother to explain herself either.

"That's how I knew it was really over," he said.

After everything, his ex's affair left him completely bemused.
