It looks like Hollywood stars and K-pop idols aren’t the only ones who need their own army of bodyguards. Even local actor and getai singer Wang Lei, who is enjoying a surge of popularity thanks to his hilarious and expletive-laden Facebook live streams of him selling frozen seafood, spent no small amount hiring his own protection team when he travelled across the Causeway recently.

The 59-year-old, who is now affectionately known as ‘Mai Yu Ge’ (‘Fish Selling Bro’) or the ‘Fishmonger King’, inked a six-figure deal to become the first ambassador of Asia Momentum Media Entertainment and is currently on a nine-day tour in Malaysia. An official signing ceremony was held yesterday (Sep 10) through a live stream with AMM Entertainment CEO, director Jack Neo.
