987 DJ Germaine Tan On How She Met Her Zouk CEO Boyfriend & Why Their Favourite Thing To Do Now Is "Netflix & Chill”… No, Not In That Way

On Sunday (Jun 25), 987FM DJ Germaine Tan, 27, shared on her Instagram that she had gone fishing with her Zouk Group CEO boyfriend Andrew Li, 40.

When 8days.sg reached out to Germaine, she admitted that unlike her boyfriend who's "really into fishing", waiting for fish to bite the bait wasn't actually her thing.

However, she still went for it because trying new things like that is also the "fun part of a relationship", where you "open your world up to the other person". 

And now, she has newfound respect for the hobby.

"You always see when people post on Instagram that they caught a fish and they put it as their profile picture then you'll go: 'Um...' but after catching a fish, I have to say I understand why people like fishing. Once you catch one, the feeling is, 'Wah I think I will go back'," she gushed.

Kinda like finding the right guy?

8DAYS.SG: How did you and Andrew meet?

GERMAINE TAN: It was about slightly more than a year ago and I was out with [fellow 987FM DJ] Avery Aloysius Yeo and a few friends. We were having drinks at a bar that's also under the Zouk Group. It's called Here Kitty Kitty. Suddenly this guy [Andrew] comes over and he's like "Oh, meet my friend. You watched the movie Top Gun: Maverick? My friend is a fighter pilot in the Air Force". He was just trying to set his friend up with us 'cos we were a group with a few girls. 

How did you two go from that to being an item?

I love dancing and I've been dancing all my life, but not a lot of guys can dance, especially in a club. So the first night when I met him, I saw that he could dance I was like: "Oh! Not too bad!" 

Then I posted a photo at the bar from that night. At this point I've never met him since [that night at Here Kitty Kitty] but he must have found my Instagram and he slid into my comments. That's how we connected on Instagram. I'm like: "Oh my god, can you have a more original way?" Afterwards I realised he did slide into my DMs, I just never saw it. (laughs)

So it has been a year since you got together?

I'd say it's been six months since we started officially dating though we met about a year ago. I don't think I was looking for a relationship, I don't think he was either. It was more of just getting to know each other without the pressure of commitment but after a while we realised, maybe there could be something here. 

Since he works for Zouk, do you guys hang out a lot at the club more?

Actually, no. We mostly hang out at home. When you go out it's fun but I think when you've found someone whom you just wanna Netflix and chill with — not in that way! — and have a nice meal, we realised that we started going out a lot less. 

What else do you guys like to do together during your free time?

We definitely love catching movies, we love travelling together. We're both massive foodies, we're going to Bangkok this week to eat our way through. We bring his dog to the beach and sometimes we do LEGO together. I know, me and LEGO? Who am I? But you know, it's quite fun. (laughs)

Does dating the CEO of Zouk mean you never have to pay for drinks at the club anymore?

(Laughs) No! If I take my own friends out I pay for my friends okay. We're equals (laughs).

When you guys hit the club, who usually gets drunk first? 

(Laughs) He's definitely seen me in a compromising state many times. You know, sometimes you just like to let loose. Have I seen him? Yup, yup. But obviously he has a better alcohol tolerance 'cos he drinks a lot for work and stuff. 

Honestly, our favourite part of the night is coming home after and eating supper and then literally just passing out on the bed. Most nights we try to [stay sober enough to go home for supper]. (Laughs)

Does he take good care of you when you’re drunk?

He takes the best care of me. I feel safe and that I can really have fun. I feel that he's watching over me, taking care of me, stopping me from drinking too much and making sure my friends are having a good time. I think he's really sweet in that way. 

Do your friends ask for your help to be on Zouk’s guest list now that you're dating Andrew?

Hmm... honestly, no. Most of my friends can find their own way in. (Chuckles) Nobody really texts me or asks me anything like that, most of my friends live there (laughs).
