First-Time Top 10 Winner Jeremy Chan Told Wife Jesseca Liu Not To Cry ‘Cos She’d Look Ugly When She Hugged Him On Camera

SA2023 gave Jeremy his first Top 10 award, and Jesseca, her tenth.

No one was more excited than Jesseca Liu, 44, when husband, Jeremy Chan’s name was announced as the eighth winner of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award at last night’s (Apr 9) Star Awards. We mean, it is the 44-year-old’s first Top 10 win, after all.

And so, Jesseca immediately rushed to Jeremy’s side all the way from the other side of the Marina Bay Sands Theatre, embracing him with tears in her eyes.

So sweet, right?

Here's what he said.

When 8days.sg caught up with Jeremy after the show, he let us in on a little secret — he’d actually whispered something to Jesseca there and then.

“I didn’t expect her to tear up, but I know she was really emotional, ‘cos she really wanted me to win. [When she hugged me], I told her: 'Don't cry, don't cry, very ugly one, they’ll use this [moment] in the future.’" Jeremy laughed.

He went on to add: "When I was on stage giving my speech, I wanted to thank her, and I started to get emotional myself, 'cos she really put in a lot of effort and gave me a lot of support.”

The first of many to come.

Jeremy shared that he wasn’t expecting to win that night. After all, as a first-time nominee, he’s “someone who hasn’t even started” on his journey to join the ranks of the All-Time Favourite Artistes.

“I was more worried about my wife, 'cos she's only one tiny step away from becoming an All-Time Favourite Artiste, so... I didn't think much about myself, I was more worried for her,” he said.

They're both winners.

Thankfully, both Jeremy and Jesseca emerged victorious. And yes, Jesseca is officially an All-Time Favourite artiste now, with Jeremy returning the favour by going on stage with Jesseca, phone in hand to record down the moment.

Jeremy confirmed with us that he was indeed taking a video of Jesseca when she went on stage for her award and that he’ll hand over the video for her to edit and post… soon.

Jeremy's a full-time IG husband too.

Finally, Jeremy shared that there’s one person he didn’t mention in his speech that he really wants to thank — Mark Lee, 54. Jeremy was signed to Mark’s artiste management company, King Kong Media Production, prior to joining Mediacorp in 2021.

“I wanted to thank Mark gor, 'cos without him, I actually wouldn't have progressed so much, and he taught me a lot. I spoke about this during Backstage Live as well. Mark gor, I’m so sorry, 'cos my mind really went blank, I didn't know who to thank. It's my first Top 10 [nomination], so I never imagined that I'd get it,” he said.
