The kind of teacher you have can definitely shape your educational journey.

While Felicia Chin had her fair share of inspiring teachers, there was one who, well, left a mark for other reasons.

Recently, the 41-year-old actress invited her secondary school Math teacher, Mr Yeo, to her home for a home-cooked meal. The two chatted about the impact teachers can have on their students.

During their conversation, Feli told him about an incident where one of her Sec 4 teachers said something that left her feeling rather demoralised.

“What was a bit hurtful was that I remember him saying, ‘Felicia, you can at most get a B',” recounted Feli, who studied at Tanjong Katong Girls’ School.

"[If you can get a] B, that’s already considered very good," the teacher had said.

Even Mr Yeo immediately expressed his disapproval.

“The impression he gave me was that he thinks everyone else can get an A, but for me, he thinks getting a B is already very good. In my memory, he said that in front of the whole class,” said Feli.

Out of respect for the teacher, Feli declined to reveal what the subject was when 8days.sg reached out to her. "It's Teacher's Day after all," she quipped.

But, of course, the actress was extremely disheartened when she heard what the teacher said. She went on to remark on how important it is for a teacher to believe in their students.

Thankfully, she did not let those words get to her and eventually proved the teacher completely wrong.

Not only did Feli score an A2 for that particular subject, she also went on to score straight As and secure a place at Victoria Junior College.

By the way, contrary to what the teacher thought, not everyone in the class got an A for the subject.

She did, however, admit that she did not enjoy or understand the subject as much as her classmates.

“I feel teachers definitely play a part in the learning experience,” she said.

A terrible thing for a teacher, or anyone in fact, to say
