They say it's never too late to pursue education, and ex-Mediacorp actress Florence Tan, 49, is a true testament to that.

"I am officially a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science!" she shared on Instagram."Reaching this milestone wouldn’t have been possible without an incredible support team over the past five years."

Florence also shared a photo of herself in a graduation gown and mortarboard while holding her certificate in front of a backdrop from US-based distance learning institution, University of the People, where she presumably studied.

Florence went on to thank her family for their endless love, patience and sacrifices, and for "[believing] in me even on the hardest days."

She also thanked her colleagues and friends for their support as she pursued her dream, while thanking UoPeople, an online university in California, for "[making] global education a reality".

"Balancing family, work, dance, and studies wasn’t easy, countless sleepless nights and endless hours of rushing to meet paper deadlines," she recalled.

"But it taught me the ultimate truth: ‘Never give up. Great things take time'."

Florence stepped away from showbiz in 2006 after marrying Taiwanese businessman Jack Liu.

The couple, who are now based in Hong Kong, have 18-year-old twin daughters, Novea and Viola. She was, however, last seen in the 2025 Chinese romance drama The White Olive Tree.

The actress, who has a background in accounting, revealed in 2020 that she'd been enrolled in UoP where she's studying health science.

The university, which was established in 2009, is an online, tuition-free, nonprofit university that aims to allow people from all walks of life obtain a university education. Back then, Florence recounted her first week of school, saying that it had left her "exhausted thus far".

What an achievement
