Everton Road Vs Joo Chiat: Singapore’s Prettiest Street?
What would you consider the prettiest street in Singapore?
While most Singaporeans immediately claim it to be Joo Chiat, with its preserved and colourful Peranakan shophouses, it seems tourists think otherwise.
But according to Xiaohongshu user @XiaoYaZaiLuShang, Everton Road takes the crown.
Really?
The netizen described Everton Road as a short and quiet street with few businesses, and that every house had potted plants displayed outside.
“It is truly soothing and peaceful to walk down the streets,” she wrote.
She also added that the "magical presence" of nature (we are guessing the massive trees) made her instantly happy.
And to top it off, she claimed that there was a café nearby that is ranked #19 in Asia.
Small problem, though. That café doesn’t exist.
Comments later revealed that she was actually talking about Nylon Coffee Roasters in Everton Park, which is not ranked at all.
The only Singaporean café that made Asia’s top list is Apartment Coffee at Selegie Road, which snagged #1 in Asia and sixth globally.
Still, the post went viral with Chinese netizens flooding the comments, asking for the exact location and the best photo spots.
But Singaporeans weren’t having it.
“I live in the east and I can assure you nothing beats Joo Chiat’s pretty streets,” claimed a netizen.
Others backed this up by posting photo after photo of Joo Chiat’s shophouses.
Some confused tourists even posted pictures of Joo Chiat, thinking that it was Everton Road.
Why not visit both?
Whether you are team Everton or Joo Chiat, both are beautiful slices of Singapore’s history.
