Quan Yifeng’s daughter, Eleanor Lee, has spent most of the past five years in China. The 20-year-old shot to overnight fame after a viral Apple commercial in 2015, and has seen her popularity rise steadily in the country.

She’s also enrolled in the prestigious Beijing Film Academy, which counts some of China's biggest stars, like Liu Yifei, Yang Mi and Vicki Zhao, as their alumni. With all that time spent in China, plus having Singapore's most-lauded Mandarin-speaking host as a mum, one would expect Eleanor's command of Chinese to be pretty darn spectacular.

Well, it is now.

But that always hasn't been the case. Eleanor was a guest on a recent episode of Yifeng's talk show Hear U Out, where mother and daughter revealed how bad her command of the language was prior to making it big. In fact, Yifeng said Eleanor had so much trouble with Chinese that she called it a "learning disability".
