Edmund Chen Says Xiang Yun’s Star Awards 2026 Best Supporting Actress Nomination “Makes Life Feel Truly Perfect” Amid Legal Troubles
The 65-year-old former actor was sentenced to five days’ jail and a five-year driving ban last month after being involved in a traffic accident.
Local veteran actress Xiang Yun is once again in the running for Best Supporting Actress at the Star Awards 2026.
The nomination list was announced today (Feb 26), with the 64-year-old being recognised for her performance in Mediacorp drama The Gift Of Time.
While Xiang Yun remained characteristically calm about the nod, the news was a bright spark for her husband, Edmund Chen.
In an interview with 8world, Edmund, 65, responded to her nomination: “Thank you for this piece of good news. It makes us feel that life is truly perfect”.
The past year has been turbulent for the former local actor.
He was involved in a high-profile traffic accident on Mar 4, 2025.
On Jan 29, he was sentenced to five days’ jail and a five-year driving ban after pleading guilty to driving without reasonable consideration for other road users.
He has since filed an appeal against the sentence. A stay of execution was granted on Feb 6, 2026, and he is currently out on S$15,000 bail.
Despite the cloud of legal woes hanging over him, Edmund appeared determined not to let circumstances dampen spirits during the festive season. During Lunar New Year, he even dressed up as the God of Wealth (Cai Shen Ye) to send blessings to friends and family.
As for Xiang Yun, award buzz is hardly new territory for her.
“I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been nominated,” she told 8world, though she acknowledged that this year is far from a walkover.
“Emerald Hill is hugely popular, and every character is vividly portrayed. Kym Ng, Chen Liping, and I are all veteran actresses, but Ya Hui and Chantalle Ng have also delivered commendable performances,” she said.
“For me, 2025 has already been a year full of blessings. I’m very grateful,” Xiang Yun added.
In The Gift of Time, Xiang Yun plays a devoted wife to Chen Hanwei’s character, who is diagnosed with cancer.
