Edmund Chen Canvasses Star Awards Votes For Son Chen Yixi With This Adorable Throwback Photo
Turns out Yixi’s first Star Awards appearance was 26 years ago.
After the nominees for the Top 20 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes were announced earlier this week on March 9, all 60 of them have been expressing their joy and gratitude, most of them turning to social media to thank everyone for their support and more importantly, reminding them that voting is now open. So, if you want your favourite artiste to have a spot among the coveted Top 20 ranks this year, you know what to do.
Edmund Chen, 60, has stood out.
After all, how often is it that we see such a major throwback photo, taken during the Star Awards ceremony in 1995, no less? At that time, Edmund and his wife, Xiang Yun, 59, had taken their son, Chen Yixi, who was four then, to the ceremony, as Xiang Yun was slated to receive a Special Achievement Award that year.

And now, some 26 years later, Yixi’s scored his first Top 20 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes nomination. Which is why Edmund, himself a seven-time Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award winner, is pulling out all the stops to lobby for Yixi.

“Back in the days, Yixi often accompanied [Xiang Yun and I] to the ceremony to support us. Very thankful to the station for giving him a chance, and allowing him to learn and complete several projects. I’m even more thankful to all the friends who have been supporting and encouraging him, I hope that everyone can continue to support him once more. You can vote once a day. From today, till April 18. Grateful and thankful,” Edmund writes in his caption. Aww…
Yixi later left a comment on Edmund’s post, thanking everyone for their support, as well as his father for the shout-out.
Online voting has started here and will end on April 18, 8pm.
Voting is open to anyone with a valid Mediacorp account, and each person can only cast one vote a day for each category.
The results will be announced live at the Star Awards 2021 show.
