Diana Ser & James Lye Shave Son’s Head For NS; Says His Parents Doing It Is “More Meaningful Than Going To Some Random Barber”

By the time you read this, Diana Ser’s oldest kid, Jake Lye, 18, would have enlisted for National Service (NS) on April 2.

In preparation for this day, the 52-year-old host and her husband, former actor-turned-banker husband, James Lye, 55, shaved off their son's hair, as seen in Diana's Instagram post the day before. 

While Jake may have looked seemingly worried in the video, Diana told 8days.sg that, in fact, her son told her that “it’s more meaningful than going to some random barber”.

The Talking Point host also tells us that James “self-declared that he would have the first shave”.

“He was really shaving like his life depended on it,” she laughs. 

Of course, Diana was also seen having a go with the shaver though she readily admits to us that “shaving hair is something I can’t do".

Is it just us or did Jake’s celeb parents seem to enjoy the experience more than he did?

However, Diana tells us that in the end, they entrusted the final touches to a barber who has been cutting Jake’s hair since he was a toddler.

When we asked Diana about how she felt about Jake heading into NS, she says that this will “be the longest that [Jake] will be away from home since birth”.

“His recent grad trip did prepare me a bit,  but ultimately, I’m not prepared that my baby has grown up,” adds Diana, who also reveals she has never given the thought of Jake enlisting much thought.

“I actually think it will be good for him. At least my male friends tell me that the experience is transformative,” she says.
