DPM Heng Swee Keat Jokes About His Viral “East Coast Plan” Moment From GE 2020
East side is the best side, right?

While many would shy away from an embarrassing past, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat is embracing his infamous “East Coast Plan” blunder from the 2020 General Election.
In an Instagram post late last month, the 64-year-old referenced the slip-up saying, “In my excitement, and some would say “strategy”, I had a moment where people remembered forever,”
DPM Heng then showed the now-viral clip of himself stuttering and stumbling during his speech for East Coast residents.
He famously said he had a “plan for East Coast residents. Also, a plan for East Coast. We have a East Coast, Singapore, we have a together and East Coast Plan. We care for East Coast”.
“While we laughed, I laughed too,” he said, going on to highlight the progress his GRC has made since winning the election and the contributions of residents.
Of course, many netizens praised the minister for his good-natured response, many appreciating how he is able to acknowledge his infamous mistake while laughing at himself as well.
“Respect for owning the moment!” read a comment while another proudly said, “That’s why east side is the best side”.
