For some, CNY’s not just about the new clothes, feasting and reunions with family and loved ones.

It’s all about a spot of light-hearted gambling too. Pick your poison — mahjong, blackjack, poker or the heart-stopping in-between.

But all in good fun though 'cos it’s not exactly auspicious to ruin ties over a game, right?

Anyway, for influencer Daryl Aiden Yow, this year sure is shaping up to be an extremely huat year.

The 32-year-old took to his Instagram on January 30 to share this picture of him looking blissfully happy against a backdrop of SGD.

And as it turns out, he had won a whopping $11,280 from just one game of in-between. Say whaat?!

Thats a huge windfall.

The influencer, who’d exclaimed that he was “STILL SHAKING (sic)” in his caption, later took to his IG Story to answer the one burning question everyone had on their mind: how did he win such a big pot?

According to Daryl, he’d gone over after a shoot to join a particular group of friends, whom he meets “once every year (twice max)” 'cos they invited him over for a spot of gambling.

He added that they started off with blackjack, but quickly moved on to in-between as blackjack was “apparently not thrilling enough for everyone”.

And from then on, the initial $600 that Daryl had with him was very quickly relinquished to the pot.

For those who don’t play in-between, the rules of the game generally goes like this: Players are all dealt two cards each, and when their turn comes, they’ll have to bet if the value of the third card is in-between the values of the two cards they have in their hand.

All players have to put a minimum amount into the pot at the start of the game, and during their turn, they will choose to bet any amount not exceeding the total value of the pot. If their third card is in-between the values of the two cards they have in their hand, they collect however much they bet from the pot. If they lose, they have to add to the pot.

Daryl added that all eight players had to place $200 in the pot before the game, which meant that they were starting with a $1,600 pot.

He revealed that he was initially “greedy” and bet $1,000 when he got an A and Q card. However, he lost his bet, and ended up having to make a run to the ATM to withdraw more money, since he didn’t have enough cash on hand to pay out the $2,000 he needed to put in the pot.

Remember, gamble responsibly everyone.

Adding a picture of him at the ATM, Daryl wrote: “This pic is me withdrawing more cash to pay the $2000 into the pot and also me reminding myself that I'm losing a bit of my mind.”

As the night progressed, Daryl gradually won back his $2,000 with a series of smaller but successful bets. Meanwhile, the pot continued to snowball, with unlucky bettors putting in $4,000 and $6,000 in.

“That was how the pot became 5 digits. We even agreed to split 8 ways by a certain time if nobody wins,” he shared.

But of course, Daryl eventually won it all.

He was eventually dealt an A and a K card, so he decided to go all-in. “I was flushing and so hot!!! I told myself if I lost this, then ok, stop already. $22,000 if I double means pot = $33,000. Hopefully when split 8 ways I can still recoup some back,” he wrote.

Wow...

However, when he looked at his card, he saw a line — which meant that it was a picture card, and mostly likely, another king card.

“I FELT MY HEART SINK SO LOW I WAS HIGH ALREADY (sic)” he exclaimed. Daryl added that he ended up just slamming the card open ‘cos the wait was killing him. And yes, he ended up getting a queen card, which meant that he’d won.

"I think my hands were (and are still) shaking from the fear of seeing the line (Ah Pek) way more than winning the S$11,280. STOP ALREADY. The money is safe with me. NO MORE. (sic),” he wrote.

So… what’s the biggest amount you’ve ever won from these games?
