Darren Lim Introduced Celine Dion As Two Singers "Celine & Dion" When Hosting Olympics With Sharon Au In 1996
Ex-Mediacorp star Sharon Au must be having a great time basking in the Olympic spirit in Paris right now.
The 48-year-old actress, who's been based in Paris since 2018, is currently working with Mediacorp to produce content about the Olympics straight from the French capital.
"Everywhere we go, the support for the Olympians is massive and infectious. The games are such inspiring platforms, emblazoning the power of discipline and focus, sacrifice and perseverance," she wrote on IG.
"I'm super psyched to meet up with the new generation of Mediacorp's TV team and to be able to contribute a little to their content creation," added Sharon, who left Mediacorp in 2018.
This isn't Sharon's first time as an Olympics roving reporter.
During the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, Sharon was covering the opening ceremony.
As with all things coming full circle, Celine Dion performed at the ceremony like she did this year in Paris.
Sharon added: "My co-host Darren Lim thought Celine Dion were two different singers, and when he announced blaringly 'Ladies and gentlemen, let’s welcome Celine AND DION!' I rolled onto the floor in laughter."
"It was LIVE. I wish we could see the footage again, Darren. Good times."
Given how Celine (and) Dion's battle with stiff person syndrome has affected her ability to sing, her show-stopping rendition of 'Hymne à l'amour' on the Eiffel Tower and underneath the Olympic rings was a triumph of the human spirit.
"Maybe Darren wasn’t wrong after all," asserted Sharon. "She is indeed two people in one, embodying in her willowy frame, double the force double the love. Talk about a triumphant comeback."
