The past few months have been, as he himself says, “tough" for former radio DJ Daniel Ong. He’s been busy on all fronts, from preparing for the opening of his new steakhouse, to dealing with the ongoing Twelve Cupcakes court case. And as the 45-year-old shared in an Instagram post earlier today, he’s anticipating an addition to his family too, as his wife is expecting.

Daniel, who tied the knot with art teacher Fay Tan, 35, in February last year, revealed in his caption that Fay’s 16 weeks pregnant.

"These past few months have been tough, and we have been praying non-stop for the health of our new little one. Tests, invasive procedures, lotsa worrying and more. To all who have stood by us and sent us loving messages, thank you. Baby is good! (sic)” he wrote.

Months after we visited the upper floor following reports of shuttered shops and sparse foot traffic, we returned on a Friday afternoon to see whether things had changed. This time, Level 2 had noticeably more people around, from teenagers and tourists to older shoppers. More importantly, shoppers were actually interacting with the stalls, trying things on and making purchases, rather than simply browsing and walking through. There are still plenty of shuttered units, and Level 2 remains much quieter than the ever-busy ground floor, but the atmosphere felt noticeably livelier during our visit. Bugis Street is also hosting its “Somewhere @ Bugis Street” weekend events as part of its ongoing efforts to bring more activity to the area.
