Woman Whose Ex-Husband Had Multiple Affairs Opens Up To Jade Seah About How It Unfolded
Local content creator Dawn detailed how she uncovered her ex-husband’s multiple affairs during their marriage.
If you have spent any time scrolling through Instagram lately, you would have likely encountered the unbelievable episodic dramas of local content creator, Dawn (@dawnbiling).
Yes, the one where she refers to her cheating ex-husband as "my late husband because he's dead to me".
It even got Jade Seah intrigued enough for the host to invite the content creator on her podcast, As Real As It Gets. As part of a five-part special series about cheating partners, they delved in to Dawn's marriage with her cheating ex.
Dawn married her then-husband in 2018 and found out he was cheating on her four years into the marriage, and with more than one woman.
She first grew suspicious when his female colleague that Dawn also knew suddenly started acting cold towards the latter. Said colleague also started getting unusually cosy with her ex-husband at work events, which Dawn used to accompany him to.
“I realised her body language was very different towards me all of a sudden. My 'late husband' and I could walk into the room together, and she would only acknowledge him. Previously, it was never like that,” said Dawn.
While she declined to share which industry he's in, she went on to say that he had to attend many social functions and during an annual gala, her husband’s colleague acted like Dawn wasn’t there.
“For photo taking, she insisted that he carry her for the photo,” she revealed, saying it was under the guise of humour.
She said she knew something was off when her ex-husband suddenly panicked a few days later when she reached for his phone after he had asked her to map out a route when they were in the car.
“I never saw him panic so hard in my life. And that’s when I knew it,” she said.
That same night, Dawn decided to check his messages with everyone, including the female colleague, to confirm her suspicions.
For context, the couple had each other’s passwords, but Dawn never felt she needed to pry into his phone.
“[The affair] had been going on for a while, apparently, and he had been at her place. They were discussing about how comfortable her bedsheets were, and she said she got new ones, and he’s like, “Guess there is only one way to find out, like how comfortable they are,” she revealed.
Dawn eventually confronted her ex-husband, but he never admitted any wrongdoing as he was “so good at deflecting and gaslighting” her.
“I think I was so overwhelmed and tired by the situation that I cried for two weeks straight. I was inconsolable,” said Dawn, who admitted she didn’t know then she was being gaslit.
Dawn also shared that, without her knowledge, her ex-husband had told everyone, including his friends, that he had planned to divorce her.
They tried marriage counselling, and according to Dawn, had awkward discussions about whether touching female colleagues’ thighs crossed a line.
“During one of the sessions, we were deciding how much was too much touch between him and his female colleagues. For example, I had to specify, which I thought was ridiculous, that he cannot put his hand on her thigh,” she said.
“He actually thought it was an okay thing to do?” Jade asked.
“He thought it was perfectly fine,” Dawn replied.
Although Dawn initially forgave him and tried to make the marriage work, she eventually had to accept reality when things unravelled further, about six months to a year after counselling.
Dawn discovered multiple hotel bookings made while she was overseas in the US for work, despite his claims he just needed “me time”. By this time, her ex had already changed his password on his phone.
However, Dawn managed to check his phone due to "divine intervention".
“[One time], he fell asleep scrolling on his phone, and it just dropped on my face with the phone unlocked. Wow! This was the opportunity for me to take a look,” she said.
Dawn then recalled that her ex-husband would tell her that he was staying with his male friends for those hotel bookings.
“I found one where he booked a hotel room when I was away. Which I thought was so strange. Because his excuses for booking the rooms was that he needed ‘me’ time,” she said.
Jade quipped in response: “But then you were away, right? Your whole house, you got a lot of ‘me’ time. More like ‘we’ time.”
Dawn also revealed that her ex-husband even left their dog at home while he was at a hotel. “I was so mad. And that’s when I realised, 'Oh dear, this guy is starting things again',” she said.
As time went by, she found out her ex-husband, whom she says is a sweet-talker, was also flirting with other women in his company.
What's Dawn's advice having gone through all this?
"[To the women] trust your intuition.... and [to the men] don't insult our intelligence!" she said.
