Chew Chor Meng recently shared on Instagram that he's renovating his home, which he has lived in for the past 16 years.

And to make things more convenient for himself and his family, the 53-year-old actor is adding a lift to his crib, a landed house.

In an interview with Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, Chor Meng said he's "lived there since 2006 and can't bear to move away."

However, as it's difficult for the actor, who's battling spinal muscular atrophy, to climb the stairs, Chor Meng decided to install a lift in his home.

In 2008, the actor was diagnosed with a rare muscle-wasting genetic disorder known as Kennedy’s Disease, which causes progressive weakening and wasting of the muscles.

"Since we're renovating, [we] might as well make it more convenient for me to go up and down," he said, adding that they would also be converting the unnecessary steps to gentle slops.

When asked how long the renovation is going to take, Chor Meng shared that he and his family moved out of their house in May and are now renting a place.

He's hoping the project, which faced pandemic-related delays, will be completed by late September or early October.

Chor Meng said he "doesn't know" how much the renovation costs as "the amount changes every day."

"I'm anxious too, [there are] too many unknowns," he said, adding that his wife Deon is the one stressing over the house as "90 per cent of the things are handled by [her]."
