Weekends are usually associated with sleeping in, bumming around and generally catching up on what we’ve been meaning to do throughout the week. For veteran actor Chen Tianwen, however, the weekend means driving down to non-profit organisation Cheng Hong Welfare Services Society to pick up bags of food and daily necessities before heading to a block of flats, where he drops off care packages to 12 old folk who live alone.

“The most important thing during the deliveries is that we want to get the packed food to them while it’s still warm,” the 57-year-old explains to 8days.sg over the phone. “Every Saturday, the society has more than 600 meals to deliver to all corners of Singapore. They asked for help from the members and more than 40 people, including myself, volunteered our time to use our own cars to deliver necessities to them once a week.”
