Best Actor Chen Hanwei Feared Contracting Covid-19 Before Star Awards So Much, He Was “Wrapped Up Like A Dumpling”
The Best Actor winner and first-time Star Awards host takes his show duties very, very seriously.
Only a few things can get Chen Hanwei out of his house these days. One of them is the Star Awards 2022 show, which the veteran actor hosted this year. Oh, and he won the Best Actor prize too. But the 52-year-old took his hosting duties so seriously, he was practically holed up at home to avoid contracting Covid-19.
“I have hosted before, but mostly lighter stuff like lifestyle shows. It’s the first time I’m hosting the Star Awards though, and it’s such a huge responsibility,” he said. When 8days.sg caught up with him at the Mediacorp Theatre, where the awards ceremony was held, Hanwei exclaimed: “I didn’t go out at all except for rehearsals and tapow-ing food.”
The most stressful aspect of hosting, he reckoned, was not memorising lines but “avoiding coming down with Covid-19.” Ah, welcome to the new normal!
