Love 972’s Chen Biyu Is A Fan Of Emerald Hill’s Young Tasha Low But The Child Star Mistook The DJ For Someone Else

Local blockbuster drama Emerald Hill is a huge hit with fans eagerly awaiting new episodes each week.

And it seems a couple of the show’s child actors are also winning over audiences – including some unexpected fans.

Like say, Love 972 DJ Chen Biyu?

During The Breakfast Quintet’s Facebook Live today (Apr 8), it was revealed that Biyu is a fan of Ivory Chia, who plays kid Xinniang (Tasha Low's character), a child beggar raised by Chen Liping's Ah Zhu, a street con artist and compulsive gambler in Emerald Hill.

Besides Biyu, The Breakfast Quintet is helmed by Mark Lee, Marcus Chin, and Dennis Chew.

Ivory, nine, was on the popular morning radio show alongside her Emerald Hill co-star, Tyler Ten to chat about their time filming the drama.

Biyu, who celebrated her 58th birthday on Sunday (Apr 6), is known for being low-key and rarely, if any, makes public appearances. 

“I know that!” replied Ivory gleefully before revealing that she had exchanged text messages with Biyu in the past.

“She has never private messaged me before, and yet she private messaged you! Win liao lo!” exclaimed Mark jokingly.

Unfortunately, Ivory didn’t get to meet Biyu as the latter was on leave. But a mix-up came to light.

After the video was posted online, host Dennis Chew later told 8days.sg that there was a slight misunderstanding – Ivory had actually mistaken someone else who messaged her for Biyu.

Dennis clarified that the person Ivory mentioned was actually someone else known to both her and her mother.

“Ivory didn’t know who Biyu was at the time, which is why she mistakenly thought Biyu was someone else,” he added.

That said, it’s true Biyu is a genuine fan.

“[Biyu] saw her [Ivory] at the reception once and went to tell her that she’s a fan,” Dennis shared.

Ivory has been acting since she was six, with her first role in 2022’s Love At First Bite bagging her a ‘Young Talent Award’ nomination at Star Awards 2023.

Later in the live stream, Mark was heard jokingly asking Ivory, “Can I private message you too?” prompting laughter from the entire studio.

“Just don’t tell your parents!” quipped the ever-comedic Mark.

Though we didn’t manage to catch it, we would think Ivory’s mum (yes, she was in the studio), who was sitting at the sofa in the background, was likely stifling a laugh too.

Ivory was also seen recreating her now iconic Emerald Hill scene where she whined “Nya Nya” after Mark who stood in as Chen Liping’s Ah Zhu.
