Man Catfished By Fake "Charlie Goh" On Grindr; Finds & Texts The Real Ah Boys To Men Star On Telegram
Having people impersonate celebrities on dating apps is nothing new, but how often does it go this far?
Earlier today, local actor Charlie Goh shared a very amusing Telegram message he received from a stranger.
"If this account belongs to Charlie Goh which I met on Grindr please reply as I [am] already here at Khatib," the person wrote. Grindr is a popular dating app for the LGBTQ community.
The person, however, told the 37-year-old actor that it's fine if he wishes to cancel or has no plans to meet them. "I made an effort sir, thanks," they added.
Obviously, the "Charlie" on Grindr was not the Ah Boys To Men star himself, and the actor quickly responded to clear the air.
"Hi bro can you kindly send me the profile. Clearly I've been impersonated. You have been catfished, please report the account," replied Charlie.
He also told the person to search his name on Google, which would show that he's happily married to his wife of eight years, Pearlene Sim.
Thankfully, the person on the other end remained polite after the learning the misunderstanding, and even apologised to the actor for "this disturbance".
"Rest assured I will not disturb you again," they promised.
But here comes the jarring question, how did this person manage to reach out to Charlie on Telegram in the first place? Even the actor couldn't help but ask directly.
"Actually [the] common denominator [is the] name Charlie Goh. Only an add on of numbers and alphabets so I tried my luck," they explained.
The unexpectedly simple answer was regardless a relief for Charlie, who thought the catfisher even "used his number" on the dating app.
"Sorry that this happened to you," Charlie then said to the victim.
