Calvert Tay Accidentally Sent His Half-Naked Pic To Extended Family Group Chat... Even His Grandpa Was In It

We all know how mortifying it is to accidentally send a message to the wrong person. 

But what happened to local actor Calvert Tay is honestly just a whole new level of paiseh. 

In a recent video with mediacorp.re.dian, the 25-year-old actor and his cast mates from new Mediacorp drama The Cellphone Swap were asked about their "most embarrassing cellphone horror story". 

The cast had their fair share of embarrassing anecdotes  — Chen Xiuhuan accidentally sent mushy messages to Pan Lingling instead of her own husband, while local actor Raynold Tan replied "mummy" to his manager, a guy, thinking it was his mum. But it was Calvert's experience that really made us feel secondhand embarrassment.

The actor, who is also the son of celeb couple Hong Huifang and Zheng Geping, first shared that he had to get ripped for the shirtless pool scenes in the new series.

For those who haven't caught the show, Calvert stars as one of the swimmers of a water polo team with Mediacorp actor Zhai Siming, as well as Star Search Top 12 finalists Jona Chung, Marcus Sim and Tan Zi Sheng.

The series features a significant number of scenes of them in nothing but Speedo trunks.

"So I had to take some half-naked upper body progress shots," said Calvert.

That sounds perfect normal for the gym bros, right? We mean, we've seen so many of Siming or Tyler Ten's thirst trap gym shots on Instagram already...

But things went askew when the actor wanted to show his gains to his trainer.

"I accidentally sent it to my [extended] family group chat, which includes my aunties and cousins. Even my ah gong (grandfather) was in it," he lamented.

Yes, so his entire family got a HD view of Calvert's abs sent directly to their phones. Awkward.

Though the actor did not go on to share his family's reaction to his shirtless pic in the video, 8days.sg has reached out to him to fill in the gaps.

Calvert tells us that he actually quickly deleted the photo, but it "was too late".

"A good number of them saw it and there was no turning back," he laments.

While the pic is, thankfully, no longer sitting in the family group chat, he reveals that it's actually now on social media because he did go on to post it on IG. The actor, however, declines to reveal which photo it was. 

But how did his family react upon seeing his abs? 

"⁠I mean there were a lot of praises, especially 'WOWWWW' these kind," he laughs.

What a supportive bunch, especially Calvert's immediate family — including his parents and sister, Mediacorp actress Tay Ying, as well as brother-in-law, celebrity chef Wu Sihan.

"My dad and mum always praise [me] and say “good job”, “can see your effort”. Even my sister and brother-in-law as well, always singing praises, but they will tease me and ask me to milk it and show more," says Calvert. 

Ever since then, Calvert makes it a point to double check every time he sends out a photo.

"What if I accidentally send to a client one day? Nah I can’t let that happen," he quips.

The actor's dad, Geping, is well-known for his chocolate abs. We mean, he's literally Singapore's OG hunkle.

Has he been giving his son some tips to become as fit as him?

"My dad always gives me advice, especially on the diet side, because he and I train very different things. For me I train for mobility and body weight, like calisthenics and martial arts, with light weight. For him he builds mainly on weight training," explains Calvert.

And he's already set on outdoing his dad's shredded physique one day.

"For my body he thinks it’s definitely on par and on track to be even better than him. And I will be hahaha," he affirms.

We are certainly looking forward to see that.
