Brandon Wong Looking For Phone Sponsorship After Matilda Tao Made Fun Of His Camera's Resolution At Star Awards
When Mediacorp actor Brandon Wong, 51, received his Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste trophy at last month's Star Awards, Taiwanese host Matilda Tao, who was the emcee of the ceremony, remarked that it's time for him to get a new phone.
"I was very honoured to take a photo with him backstage earlier. You've won so many awards already, you should get a new phone too," said Matilda, 53. She then added that the resolution of Brandon's phone camera was "very bad", eliciting peals of laughter from the audience.
Three weeks later, Brandon, who also won Best Supporting Actor that night, has taken to social media with a mission.
Last Thursday, Brandon posted the 'low-res' selfie he took with Matilda on his social media.
"Matilda Tao said my handphone resolution is not very good. It's time to change to a new one!," wrote Brandon. "Any good recommendations? Or any #handphone company looking for a #brandambassador?" he wrote.
When 8days.sg reached out to Brandon, he told us that Matilda "saw [their photo on his handphone screen] and felt that the quality of the photo was terrible."
Sharing that he's currently using a Samsung S10, which was released in 2019, Brandon acknowledged that he's "not someone who changes [his] phone very often."
"To be honest, if it can still be used, I'll just continue using it. I'll only change it when it's spoilt. I'm also not like those younger artistes who get to attend phone launches where they get new phones (laughs)."
In fact, Brandon "didn't even realise" that his phone's camera quality was bad until Matilda pointed it out.
"I don't take pictures often and I thought as long as I can take photos with it, that's good enough already. But now that she mentioned it, I wondered if it's really time for me to get a phone that can take better pictures," he chuckled.
He added: "I just find it very interesting that she would joke about it. After I shared the post, she also left a comment on my Facebook saying: 'I'm just joking. You're so handsome, you come with a natural glow and beauty filter.'"
Brandon also told us that no brand has reached out to him for a phone sponsorship yet.
"Maybe after your write up, some handphone company will contact me," he laughed, adding: "Hopefully the next time you interview me, I'll be using a more high-res phone already (laughs)".
