Piano Teacher Is Singapore’s 2nd Best Job For 2026
After job search portal Indeed ranked piano teacher as Singapore’s second-best job for 2026 and netizens have plenty to say about that surprise showing. Can you guess which job took the top spot?
Job search portal Indeed recently published its Best Jobs index for 2026 and the results are raising eyebrows.
Topping the list in Singapore is financial advisor, with piano teacher coming in second. Sales manager, project manager and IT analyst complete the top five, while finance manager and network engineer rank ninth and 10th respectively.
The index highlights roles that “prove most resilient as hiring becomes selective” and are “best positioned to sustain demand, stability and mobility” as companies grow more cautious about expanding headcount.
Jobs were evaluated across five dimensions: median wage, postings volume, wage growth, postings growth and remote work availability.
The ranking caught the attention of a Reddit user, who wrote: “Just curious, what are your thoughts on the first place?”
The top spot — financial advisor — sparked the expected debate about attrition rates, commission-based pay, with some commenters calling it “the most bizarre list”.
The discussion also referenced the recent PropertyLimBrothers scandal involving co-founder Melvin Lim and former VP Grayce Tan. The pair resigned from their positions at the real estate agency amid speculation of an extra-marital affair.
But for many, it was second place that truly surprised: piano teacher.
“Piano teacher? Zhun bo?” one Redditor asked.
“Why is piano teacher so high?” another wrote.
Some tried to make sense of the ranking with quick calculations.
“$90/hr x 6hrs x 20 or 25 days,” one commenter wrote, suggesting that private lessons could add up to a tidy monthly income.
The ranking also sparked some self-reflection.
“Maybe my mom was right about forcing me to learn the piano. Is this a sign to finish my Grade 8 and diploma?” one commenter quipped.
“Shouldn't have broken up with my ex who was a freelance piano teacher,” another wrote.
Some Redditors attempted to rationalise the outcome by pointing back to the index’s criteria.
“If I were to guess, it is because of posting volume, unrealistically high pay being put, obviously remote work, high wage growth. Hence FA and piano teachers got it up there,” one user commented.
But others questioned whether the dimensions used — such as postings volume and postings growth — truly reflect job quality.
