Ann Kok’s Surprise Appearance Alongside 20-Plus-Year-Old Celebs In New K-Pop Inspired 11.11 Shopee Ad Has Us Wanting More
The perennially youthful-looking 50-year-old actress tells 8days.sg that she was not at all intimidated dancing with her younger co-stars in the new commercial.

By now we've seen so many Shopee ads we thought we could no longer be surprised by which star is in it.
Then comes the e-commerce platform's new 11.11 sale commercial featuring — surprise, surprise — former Mediacorp actress Ann Kok, 50.
The ad shows Ann dancing to the Shopee jingle like a K-pop star with Noontalk Media actress Kimberly Chia, 28, as well as influencers Hailey Teo, 24, and Soh Pei Shi, 28.
It's an unexpected combination but somehow it works, right?
When 8days.sg got on a call with Ann, she shared that it all started in September when Noontalk head honcho Dasmond Koh gave her a call while she was holidaying in Perth, asking if she would like to be part of the campaign.
The ever-so-sporting Ann agreed immediately without knowing what she was signing up for.
"He asked me if I'm game for it, and I said: 'Why not? Let's have fun and just go ahead!'. At that time there were no details if we would be singing or dancing," she recalled.
Not that it mattered to Ann.
"Dancing is not my forte but I didn't mind because I love to explore new things and I would want to do something fun. To me, after I saw the dance steps and heard the song, every thing just seemed so fun and exciting," said Ann.
The actress, who's been in showbiz for three decades after emerging as a finalist on Star Search in 1993, didn't feel challenged by the dance moves.
"I think it's easier for me because we always had to do variety shows that required us to dance," she said, adding that the moves for the ad were "not that difficult".
Ann was also not at all intimidated by her younger counterparts.
"Can I quote Michelle Yeoh? (laughs) 'Don't let anyone tell us we are past our prime'. And age doesn't matter, it's just a number," she asserted.
She also praised the girls for being "very accommodating and very cute".
We tell Ann that she looks so youthful, she can easily pass off as one of their peers.
Upon hearing that, Ann humbly chirped: "Okay lah, at least you think I blend in well. It's not like I don't fit in to the entire thing."
"We are just like a girl group right?" she laughed.
