HK Singer-Actor Alex Fong Wins Gold Medal In 200m Backstroke At World Aquatics Masters Championships In S'pore
Sing or swim? This guy can do it all.
Is there anything Hong Kong singer-actor Alex Fong can't do?
Recently, it was reported that the 45-year-old had snagged a gold medal at the World Aquatics Masters Championships that's currently taking place in Singapore.
The former Hong Kong national swimmer participated in the Men's 200m backstroke under the 45-49 age bracket, and came in first with a time of 2 minutes 16.84 seconds.
This competition is not to be confused with the World Aquatics Championships, which are meant for professional athletes from various aquatics disciplines. The Masters Championships, other the other hand, are for athletes aged 25 and above, offering a mass participation event.
After the race, Alex gushed that his wife, Maple Yip, who's expecting their first child, was also present to witness his victory.
"[It] Was a perfectly complete moment," he said.
Alex famously represented Hong Kong at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, where he competed in the 200m backstroke and 400m individual medley.
He set the Hong Kong records at both events, earning him the nickname "Little Flying Fish".
The actor, however, stopped competing professionally for 15 years to focus on his showbiz career in the early 2000s, and released hits such as Feel 100% (2002) and My Family (2005). Alex only returned to competitive swimming in 2019.
Alex will also be competing in the 100m Backstroke, as well as the 200m and 400m Individual Medley events at the World Aquatics Masters Championships, which is still on from July 26 to August 22.
Will he be going home with even more medals?
