Ah Girls Go Army Star Gives Tour Of Her “Modern French” 3-Rm Condo And Says She’s Ready for a Showbiz Comeback
Apple Chan, 36, opened up about life as a new mum, her $40K renovation, and why she’s ready to “hustle again” in showbiz.
In the latest episode of Kaypoh Room Tours, YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo dropped by the home of local actress Apple Chan, 36, best known for her roles in Ah Boys to Men 4 and Ah Girls Go Army
Apple lives in a 3-room condominium with her husband, their one-year-old son Andeaz, and a helper who helps care for the little one. The 900 sq ft space, styled in a “Modern French” theme, cost the couple around S$30,000 to S$40,000 in renovation works.
During the tour, Apple proudly showed off her favourite corner: a sleek white panel feature wall accented with soft cove lighting that creates a warm and elegant ambience.
When asked if her husband had any say in the home design, Apple revealed with a laugh: “Actually he left everything to me to decide. He [told me to do whatever I wanted], but of course I would let him [in on my plans] and he said ‘okay’ to everything.”
“Maybe he feels my taste is better than his,” chuckled Apple.
Still, there was one piece of furniture he did insist on choosing.
“The only thing he wanted to pick was the sofa. When he was living with his parents, they had a big leather sofa, so he wanted something similar.”
The couple eventually chose a two-seater reclining leather sofa, perfect for him to unwind and watch TV “in a cinema setting” after work.
Apple also shared the biggest challenge of moving into her own place. “The most challenging thing is storage space. There’s no bomb shelter or storeroom, and no laundry area either, so I had to give away a lot of things. The things I really need, I keep in my room. My bedroom has become my storeroom,” she laughed.
As they wrapped up the home tour, Hazelle asked Apple about her most memorable experience filming 2022's Ah Girls Go Army.
“Working with so many girls was something I’ve never experienced before. It felt like going back to school days again, because we met every day, we woke up very early, we had all our meals together, and we took naps together,” recalled Apple.
Apple also admitted the shoot was more emotional and exhausting than expected.
“We had never been through the army before, except me, kind of, because I did Ah Boys to Men. For them, everything was very new. It was tough, especially under the sun, in uniform and in boots.”
“And also, Liang Dao (Jack Neo) likes to change his lines, on the spot. It was really quite difficult, so some girls would cry, not because they didn’t enjoy it, but to them, everything was very new and it was hard to adapt. But overall it was a very happy and fun experience,” she continued.
Before signing off, Apple shared a heartfelt message with viewers.
“I think most people know me [for my role in Ah Girls] and all, but now, I’m a mum, and a lot of people assume that as a mum, [I don’t work anymore]. Maybe because I post my son on social media a lot. I still work, I do live streams, I take on hosting jobs, and I manage [my beauty brand] Apondle,” she said.
“I want to let you all know that I want to come back to acting. Please don’t forget about me. I’m still around. My son has very good help at home, so I’m available to hustle again!” she laughed.
