987 DJ Kimberly Wang Ran Into Scammers In Paris & This Is How She Dealt With It

The man started a casual conversation with her and “kept the conversation going” before taking out his wallet “to show a stack of 100USD bills saying oh how much are the hotels [in Singapore] and then showed 100 Euros saying (I heard in SG you need to stamp your Euros to change to SG dollars). Then he started asking if we have Euros to show him how small change looks like, and we said sorry no cash. Then he says what about Singapore dollars? Is it the same as Ringgit? Kept asking to see a note etc saying “Don’t worry I just want to see how it looks like”.”

By then, alarm bells probably started ringing in Kim’s head as she “insisted that we don’t have cash” and the man finally gave up.

“At that point, I felt strangely uneasy so I just politely said so sorry have a good night and proceed to walk towards my room. *Please never walk towards your actual room. Just keep walking*,” she continued. “They hovered for a while then I turn and see them hitting the elevator [button] to leave. They don’t even stay here?! And they said they were coming back from looking for food, and are on the same floor.”

After they left, Kim went back to her room and it dawned on her that the couple’s car pulled up behind her Uber when she arrived at the hotel. “Where did they start following us from?!” she wondered. After checking all her belongings, she was relieved to find that nothing was lost.

Her advice for travellers who encounter similar situations is to “politely decline to engage the moment you feel something is amiss and exit the space. Don’t reveal your room/details to strangers. Never take out your wallet/cash when strangers ask. The only time you need it is to pay for your shopping at a proper store/resto”.

The DJ did not identify her travelling companions or say how many were in her party.
