987 DJ Germaine Tan Gives Tour Of Her Family’s Good Class Bungalow, Says Being Wealthy Doesn’t Define Her

The 27-year-old jock, whose dad is in the retail and electronics manufacturing industry, doesn't deny she grew up with privilege but she hopes to find her own success one day.

987 DJ Germaine Tan Gives Tour Of Her Family’s Good Class Bungalow, Says Being Wealthy Doesn’t Define Her

987FM DJ Germaine Tan, 27, was recently interviewed on The Hot Seat, a short video series on the Mediacorp IG page, where she answered some really fiery questions.

Germaine also took the The Hot Seat team on a tour of her family home  a Good Class Bungalow on Jervois Hill.

While the jock’s abode has garnered plenty of attention on social media throughout the years, she revealed that she doesn’t actually live there anymore.

She now stays with her boyfriend of one year,
Zouk Group CEO Andrew Li, 40, and returned to her family home just for the interview.

Germaine knows the importance of acknowledging her privilege

Germaine, whose dad is in the retail and electronic manufacturing services business, has always been open about acknowledging her privilege. It's why, we think, she was able to answer those questions with as much grace as she did.

“We know you’re from a very wealthy family. Do you feel that defines you as a person?” asked the host.

“I’m not going to deny that growing up with privilege, it’s something that you always have to acknowledge, you have to be grateful for. And you can’t just say that “Oh no, I worked my own way up”, but I wouldn’t say that it defines me for the rest of my life. I would like to think that I’m kind of making my own path and hopefully make my own successes at the end of the day,” said Germaine.

Germaine was then asked for her thoughts on being called a ‘nepo baby’.

For those who don’t know, the term ‘nepo baby’ refers to children of celebrities who find success thanks to their parents. Think the Beckham kids.

She answers the question with class. “I think sometimes people underestimate me, and sometimes people think that I’m not a very nice person.”

While she has been accused her of “only getting her job because of her dad”, Germaine reveals that she avoids reading such comments as they “get in her head”.

Germaine also mentioned a group of people who have been supportive of her growth in Mediacorp her mentors The Muttons Justin Ang and Vernon A, her bosses, her Hush podcast co-hosts Hazelle Teo and Azura Goh, and Avery Aloysius Yeo, with whom she hosts the The Down Low on 987FM.

Germaine has been with her boyfriend Andrew for about a year now

When asked if she sees a future with her partner Andrew, Germaine said: “Yeah, I don’t think I would date someone or get into a long-term relationship with them if I didn’t see a future with them.”

She then jokes that her wish for 2024 is to “see a ring on [her] finger”... so maybe we’ll soon be hearing wedding bells?
