Germaine Tan’s Zouk CEO Fiancé Proposed In Maldives With A 3.1-Carat Ring Before They Made A Dramatic Escape On Speedboat
The 987 DJ was "99.999 per cent sure" he was going to pop the question but that didn’t stop her from bawling her eyes out.

Sorry guys, 987 DJ Germaine Tan is officially off the market.
The 28-year-old announced her engagement to boyfriend Andrew Li, 40, the CEO of Zouk Group on Instagram yesterday (Jun 1). The couple, who met local cocktail bar Here Kitty Kitty in 2022, have been together for two and a half years.
The proposal took place three weeks ago during a dreamy getaway to the Maldives — and yes, it was every bit as romantic as you’d imagine.
Knowing Germaine’s love for sunsets and the ocean, Andrew booked the Four Seasons’ private seabank for the proposal and popped the question just as the sun dipped below the horizon.
The trip, Germaine reveals, cost around S$30K.
“There was a whole setup with an area to sit and watch the sunset and a private chef cooking dinner,” Germaine tells 8days.sg over the phone.
“While we were watching the sunset, he said to me, ‘I knew all along it was going to be you. The way you love me so fiercely inspires me to be the best version of myself. You are everything I’ve ever wanted in a soulmate, partner, and wife. If you let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you happy.’”
What Andrew didn’t know was that Germaine already had her suspicions. Days before the trip, Andrew mentioned that he had arranged for a photographer to take photos of them, which was a “huge red flag”.
“He detests taking photos and I am usually the one arranging for photographers to capture some memories of us on holiday, so that was a bit of a surprise for me. But I didn’t want to push too much and put him in a tight spot,” shares Germaine.
It also didn’t help that Andrew was acting “funny” on the day of the proposal.
He kept disappearing every 10 minutes to take phone calls or talk to hotel staff. Then, strangely, he told her to set up her tripod to film them watching the sunset.
“I was just like facepalm. Okay, I’ll just do it. At this point, I was like 99.999 per cent sure that it’s going to happen,” she says.
But that didn’t stop Germaine from bawling her eyes out when he got down on one knee.
“My jaw just dropped, I couldn’t process what to say. Then I said to him, ‘What should I say now? Should I say yes?’ And he said, ‘You can say whatever you want,’” she laughs.
“It was everything I imagined and more ‘cos we’ve worked so hard on our relationship, we’ve made our relationship our priority. So, it was very emotional in the sense that we put so much effort into the both of us, to nurturing us.”
She continues: “Sometimes I say to him, ‘Even if you propose to me with a ring pop candy, I’d still say yes. I’d be angry, but I’d say yes.’”
Thankfully, he didn’t. What Andrew proposed with was a 3.1-carat round cut diamond ring, set on a thin band lined with diamonds – something Germaine had hinted about when they visited a jeweller.
“It is exactly what I wanted. Simple, not too elaborate, very classic kind of cut,” she says.
Their celebration, however, took a dramatic turn halfway through dinner.
“It rarely rains in the Maldives, but it started storming during the second course. And the staff came over and they were like you see the skies are so touched that even they are crying. I’m like what!?” shares Germaine.
They had to pack up their dinner, flee the seabank, and finish the night enjoying dessert back in their room. “We literally escaped on a speedboat while the storm chased us. Very dramatic,” she says.
As for wedding plans? Germaine says a destination wedding in Asia is likely on the cards for next year.
“Andrew has lived in Hong Kong and London, and he’s got a family in Malaysia, so we have to do one in Malaysia but it’s more of a lunch. We’ll do a dinner in Singapore, but not a banquet,” she shares.
