By now, you’ve probably heard of this catchy Mandarin pop song from local multi-hyphenates Benjamin Kheng, 31, and Annette Lee, 29, ‘The Caifan Song’, right”?

The song was released just two weeks ago, on September 17, as part of their ongoing The Ann & Ben Show.

Ben is arguably the most famous member of local band The Sam Willows, while Annette got her start appearing in videos for local humour website SGAG, before leaving to fly solo.

But in case you have yet to hear the song, here’s a quick introduction — the power ballad essentially describes the paralysing fear that strikes everyone when ordering at a cai png store ‘cos well, who even knows the names of the many, many, dishes on display?

And here’s the song in its full glory:

Since Ben and Annette clearly have such great passion for cai png, bite-sized Mediacorp series #JustSwipeLah invited the duo down to a cai fan stall to find out just how they make their orders without using the magic words “this” and “that” in Mandarin.

Before they got started, the duo shared with host Star Search 2019 alum Zhai Siming their “cai fan strategy” to get the most bang for their buck.

And here’s tip number one from Ben: Butter up the cai fan uncle or auntie by calling him or her “handsome" or “pretty”.
