Zack Snyder’s Justice League To Premiere March 18 On HBO Go
This Snyder Cut of the superhero movie is four hours long!
The fabled Snyder Cut of Justice League will finally see the light of day.
Director Zack Snyder’s new — or rather, original — version of the 2017 superhero movie Justice League will premiere on HBO Go on March 18, WarnerMedia announced on Friday (Jan 29). It also unveiled three moody, B&W teaser posters.
This ‘new’ iteration of Justice League — which sees Superman (Henry Cavil), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), the Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) banding together to defend Earth from supervillain Steppenwolf — is the original cut Snyder was working on before leaving the production to be with his family after the tragic death of his daughter.
Joss Whedon was roped in by the studio after the suits reportedly balked at Snyder’s initial cut. That version released in the cinemas received mixed reviews and under-performed at the box-office.
Since then, fans as well as the Justice League cast had been clamouring for the release of Synder’s original cut.
In May 2020, WarnerMedia announced it will release Snyder’s intended version on HBO Max and reportedly coughed up US$70 million (S$93 mil) to let the director finish what he started.
The saga of how Snyder got to complete his movie is chronicled in the upcoming book, Release The Snyder Cut: The Crazy True Story Behind The Fight That Saved Zack Snyder’s Justice League, due out in March.
Snyder's four-hour cut is said to contain four to five minutes of additional footage shot in October.
And now that Snyder, 54, is done with Justice League, he’s ready to move on other projects beyond the DC Extended Universe.
Speaking to ComicBook Debate earlier this month, the Man of Steel director said, “Look, I never thought I’d be here doing this. I didn’t think I’d be finishing Justice League. The truth is, and it’s been widely reported, and I have no issue, this is an old movie.
“This is a years-old movie I’m working on. The DC universe has gone and branched off and done its own thing and that’s fine … as far as what I did and as far as what my vision for what I wanted to do with these characters and the journey I wanted them to go on, it’s well known that I planned on more movies — five movies or something — but I’m busy. I’ve got a lot going on."
Snyder is currently putting the finishing touches to Army of the Dead, his zombie heist flick for Netflix starring Dave Bautista, slated to drop later this year.
