Bryan Cranston has an axe to grind.

Heeeere’s Bryan!

Mountain Dew just dropped a 30-sec Super Bowl TV spot for its sugar-free soda, which spoofs an iconic scene from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

In the commercial, a send-up of the ‘Heeeere’s Johnny’ bathroom scene. Breaking Bad’’s Bryan Cranston channels Jack Torrance, the character made famous by Jack Nicholson in the 1980 movie.

Jack threatens wife Wendy (Black-ish’s Tracee Ellis Ross) with an axe, but offers her a bottle of Mountain Dew Zero Sugar instead of hurting her. This is followed by shots of the Elevator of Blood sequence (now replaced by the soda) and Cranston dressed as the Grady twins.

During The Super Bowl this Sunday (or Monday morning here), the big brands will unveil their star-studded commercials, which they pay as much as US$5.6 million (S$7 mil) per 30-sec spot.

So next time you drink Mountain Dew Zero Sugar, you’ll associate it with this homicidal moment. Just lovely. (Wonder what the Stanley Kubrick estate would make of this?) Here’s how the original look like.
