Tom Cruise Unveils Mission: Impossible 7 Title At CinemaCon: It’s Now Called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1

The next Mission: Impossible movie has a title and it's Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1. This was announced at Paramount Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation at the Colosseum theatre at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Thursday (Apr 28).

Cruise, 59, unveiled the title as well as a trailer of the seven instalment of the franchise himself in a pre-recorded message. He is currently making the eighth chapter — presumably called Dead Reckoning Part 2 — in South Africa.

Per reports, footage from the film — again directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also helmed 2015’s Rogue Nation and 2018’s Fallout — features a hair-raising motorcycle stunt sequence where Cruise’s indomitable spy Ethan Hunt dives off a cliff and then free-falls into an abyss.

Little is known about the plot of the seventh Mission: Impossible instalment but it’s safe to say that it’ll see Hunt and his allies tackling a new adversary (still the Syndicate or another off-shoot?). Dead Reckoning Part 1 is slated to open in cinemas in July 2023, with Part 2 due in June 2024.

The cast for the new films includes Mission: Impossible veterans Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny and Frederick Schmidt. Franchise newbies include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Esai Morales and Cary Elwes.

Another highlight of Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation was the first public screening of the other Cruise vehicle, Top Gun: Maverick. Initial reactions were off-the-charts positive. Per Variety, journos in the audience called the Joseph Kosinski-helmed movie “the perfect blockbuster” and “terrific in every conceivable way.” Here are the some of the feedback:

General audiences can catch the Dead Reckoning Part 1 teaser in front of Top Gun: Maverick, which rolls out in the US on May 27. At press time, no word on whether moviegoers here will see the preview when the Top Gun sequel opens on May 25.
